#2 of 15 in Museums in Sheffield
Weston Park is a public park with an area of just over 5 hectares in the City of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It lies immediately west of the City Centre, alongside the Weston Park Museum. It is situated next to the University of Sheffield Library, Geography and Firth Court buildings, and across the road from Sheffield Children's Hospital. Along with Crookes Valley Park and The Ponderosa it is one of the three Crookesmoor parks.HistoryWeston Park was the first municipal park in the city and was developed from the grounds of Weston Hall, which the Sheffield Corporation purchased for £15,750 following the death of its owners, Eliza and Anne Harrison. The hall itself was converted into the Sheffield City Museum.Robert Marnock was commissioned to design the park in 1873. New terra cotta pillared entrances were established at Winter Street and Western Bank using designs by Godfrey Sykes. The original lake from Weston Hall was extended and redesigned and the Ebenezer Elliott memorial statue was moved to the park from its original place in Market Place. A memorial to Godfrey Sykes was also erected in 1875 during the construction of the park, consisting of an 8 metre high terra cotta column designed by James Gamble, one of Sykes's pupils. It depicts youth, maturity and old age.

  • I had a visit with my son who studies in Sheffield. This is really a great place to walk or exercise. The pond with the ducks is beautiful. The green and the big trees give you a sense of tranquility.  more »

  • The park is set in a good place giving staff at nearby hospitals a place to relax in at break times. It is also close to the University so students can also socialise together there. Its lake had been upgraded and is now full of about 3 or 4 types of ducks. The bandstand is a lovely feature which blends into the big green space and the flower are kept beautiful.
  • Nice little park with a museum. Just too small, on sunny days there's too many people and not enough room to play any back games etc.
  • Great fun for all the family, great cafe or if preferred they have a great picnic are. Fun and interesting expeditions and fun interactive media.
  • Great place for a short walk on a summers day. Lovely little pond full of ducks and fish with great views of the surrounding historic university buildings. The museum is free to enter and provides some great exhibits.
  • Gorgeous little park! It has amazing flower beds, well maintained tennis courts and a nice wee duck pond
