#3 of 17 in Museums in Sheffield
Weston Park is a public park with an area of just over 5 hectares in the City of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It lies immediately west of the City Centre, alongside the Weston Park Museum. It is situated next to the University of Sheffield Library, Geography and Firth Court buildings, and across the road from Sheffield Children's Hospital. Along with Crookes Valley Park and The Ponderosa it is one of the three Crookesmoor parks.
Weston Park was the first municipal park in the city and was developed from the grounds of Weston Hall, which the Sheffield Corporation purchased for £15,750 following the death of its owners, Eliza and Anne Harrison. The hall itself was converted into the Sheffield City Museum.
Robert Marnock was commissioned to design the park in 1873. New terra cotta pillared entrances were established at Winter Street and Western Bank using designs by Godfrey Sykes. The original lake from Weston Hall was extended and redesigned and the Ebenezer Elliott memorial statue was moved to the park from its original place in Market Place. A memorial to Godfrey Sykes was also erected in 1875 during the construction of the park, consisting of an 8 metre high terra cotta column designed by James Gamble, one of Sykes's pupils. It depicts youth, maturity and old age.

  • As always - the WPM in the sunshine is breathtaking in itself. Sitting by the pond with the ravenous ducks is always a treat and just people watching is in itself, one of life's great pleasantries. Ca...  more »

  • We enjoyed our visit to the park. It is easy to locate as it is just opposite the Sheffield Children's Hospital. There is a bus stop just by the gate. It has a wheel chair accessible entrance and beautiful flowers and green fields. It is big, but not so big as I have been to bigger parks in the UK. The park has a lake where ducks swim peacefully. It is clean to a large extent. I learn it is open 24 hours... yet to confirm it. We left at about 5pm the day we visited. The Weston Park Museum is just beside it and it is a lovely place as well.
  • Park always be the best place to get the fresh air! Nice one! Like the way they set it close to the museum, uni, and even hospital area.
  • Just a short walk from the city centre is this wonderful little park. I mainly use it to run through before work. But it makes a great destination for a short evening stroll As someone else wrote some great examples of council flower beds. Ducks in the duck pond and the raucous calls of the gulls circling above the children's hospital. Brass band play in the pavilion and people dance on the grass. And it isn't just one park. From the exit by the tennis courts you can walk straight into Crookes Valley Park or cross the road and descend into The Ponderosa - three parks for the price of one.
  • Great atmosphere. 2 tennis courts (if you want to use it you must schedule in advance). Beautiful park. One of my favorites in Sheffield ♥️
  • Small park with a duck pond. Nice casual walk around with a few benches dotted around, or sit on the grass. Couple of historical monuments and a small museum at the top edge
