The Peace Gardens, Sheffield

4.4
#5 of 27 in Parks in Sheffield
The Peace Gardens are award-winning public gardens near the Winter Garden and within walking distance of the Millennium Galleries. Originally the churchyard of St Paul's church, which was built in the 18th century, this attraction is a must-see. The gardens form the central part of a spectacular walk, the emerging Gold Route, taking you from Sheffield Railway Station through a series of exciting new developments, each with their own distinctive lighting, public art, and fountains. Keep an eye out for numerous memorials for soldiers of Sheffield who served in various wars, such as the Spanish Civil War and the Korean War. You will also find a memorial to Hiroshima, a popular landmark. Explore the nearby museums, grab a relaxing drink in the cafes, or browse through the shops. • Only a relatively small space but has a thousand uses. Often a stage for Tramlines, Christmas and summer fayres are held there. In the summer people often relax on the grass to catch some lunchtime sun and parents bring kids to play in the water fountains and cool down. Often the landmark that people arrange to meet at in town.
  • Neither a park nor a garden as such. Grassy places to sit on in the summer and benches outdoors. Nice fountains which kids like to splash in. Area often used by wedding parties as a background for photos
  • So many lovely memories at Peace Garden. When you are there the winter garden worth a look. The Millennium Museum is my youngest's favourite.
  • A great day out watching the celebrations for Lizzie Dripping 35 years of dancing. Good selection of food and drink outlets round about. There's plenty of wheel chair access and a fountain for children of all ages to play in.
  • Lovely peaceful place. Water fountains n rills very calming. Noisy when lots kids playing in water fountains but can but very quiet
