  • Lovely to see that the cafe area has been cleaned up since last visit, shame the toilet were not refurbished as well, I was a little disappointed that speedo shop had gone since last bust but fitco sp...  more »
  • Not my closest pool. We travel here for the slides and wave machine. But 9/10 times the slides are closed due to insufficient staffing levels even though we come at weekends or the school holidays, as...  more »
  • Review specifically for the cafe. Sausage bun for £1.90. Can’t say fairer really. Chips at lunch were £1.40 and crispy fresh. Venue is good, staff are friendly.  more »

  • I've been to the leisure pool at Ponds Forge quite a few times now. The location of the centre is convenient, as you can get here easily by tram and train. The building is huge and modern, really well maintained. Staff on reception are very friendly. The changing rooms were clean too, something that I can't say about all swimming pools. I can't comment on other aspects of the center but the leisure pool is good. There's a wave machine and a rapid-style outer ring of the pool, as well as a few slides. The pool is great fun, but it's not all that big and only good for leisure, not for fitness or general swimming. The slides are good, but not always open and I was surprised that the pool area was rather dirty near the slides (plasters and litter). I might return here in the future, but I prefer lane swimming so this wasn't really for me.
  • This is a big complex with big facilities. I want to love it as it is fabulously located in the city centre and is literally a two-minute walk from my home. Other swimmers are mostly very courteous. The water always looks and feels relatively clean. The complex is comfortably heated, as is the water, and there seems to be a lot of helpful staff. Unfortunately it does not spoil public lap swimmers. There are often only four lanes available for public lap swimming at most times of the day and public lanes are often not available at all on weekends. The lanes have only thin lane ropes separating them rather than the anti-wave type that most pools have. The majority of the time the public lanes are set up across the pool rather than length-wise, which you get used to, but they have no warning flags for back-stroke swimmers when in this configuration. You have to wear a stick-on label around your wrist to show you have paid, which plucks hairs out of your wrist as you swim, as does the £2 locker band. The public men’s change room has a shower room with eight shower heads but only three give a reasonable shower (the others have pathetic water pressure and/or their self-timers stop the water every ten seconds). There are no private showers unless you pay for membership. The public men’s shower room and the men’s members showers are always filthy.
  • I was here for a works conference! There is an Olympic size pool, fun pool, wave machine and toddler pool. There is a dive pool, gym, trampolines etc. The conferencing facilities are great with lots of break out space. The lunch was a good selection of nibbles and sandwiches, tea, coffee and water was available all day.
  • Ponds Forge is the perfect city sports center, it has loads of different facilities with a trampolining, a massive gym which is never overcrowded and most importantly, and probably what its best known for is its swimming facilities. The best part about this is it has everything for everyone it has a family pool with a wave generator which is turned on for about five minuets every half an hour and a gentle stream area around the family pool for a more relaxing time. In the family pool there is a slide which is so big it even goes outside the building for a small section of it. Also just adjacent to the family pool is a smaller poll for parents who are swimming with you children who cant swim yet. However on the flip side for some of you more serious swimmers there is a simple lane pool with differently paced lanes so weather your only just starting out or you've been swimming all your life there's still plenty of room for you.
  • Decent gym with decent facilities. Unfortunately the shower area in the male members changing room isn't cleaned enough and smells like urine. Also, I tried to book my friend in for an induction as he was thinking of joining, I called 4 hours in advance and was told to just book on arrival. So we walked half an hour to the gym to be told there was nobody available to give my friend an induction and we would have to arrange it. What a waste of time. The worst thing was we looked in and the gym was empty. He's obviously not going to join now and I'll probably swap to puregym. Best thing about this place is the steam room which only works about 60% of the time. Not worth 30 pounds a month.
