  • A fantastic museum built into an old steel works. The museum traces Sheffield's routes in the steel industry, showing how it has affected the country, the people, and the world. There are several interactive displays within the museum, great for the kids to get hands on with. There are exhibits displaying life during WWII, life in the steel industry (from production to finishing touches), a seperate room for a large tool collection that includes many objects made locally, insights into the evolution of transport, and a good sized play area to let off steam. The River Don Engine is the largest working steam engine in (at least) Britain, and is active most days at set times. It is worth seeing to really get some perspective on the noise, power, and effort put into the steel making that put Sheffield on the global map.
  • Museum itself is okay but better if you like industrial age and history. As a wedding venue, staff is brilliant, the venue is great, easy access, car parks nearby, etc. The hall isn't good for sound systems (acoustics) but overall the venue is to be recommended
  • Great museum with some excellent, well explained exhibits. With timing your visit to see the huge stream engine operating. It's impressive!
  • Fascinating to see how people lived and worked. Fascinating to see what man could build and the objects that were made with those machines. The River Don Engine was the highlight for me.
  • Amazing museum for kids and adults too. The river don engine is incredible!
