Trip Planner: Europe / UK / England / Cumbria / Lake District / Duddon Valley / Seathwaite / Scafell Pike Mountain
Scafell Pike or is the highest mountain in England, at an elevation of 978m above sea level. It is located in the Lake District National Park, in Cumbria, and is part of the Southern Fells.TopographyScafell Pike is one of a horseshoe of high fells, open to the south, surrounding the head of Eskdale, Cumbria. It stands on the western side of the cirque, with Scafell to the south and Great End to the north. This ridge forms the watershed between Eskdale and Wasdale, which lies to the west. The narrowest definition of Scafell Pike begins at the ridge of Mickledore in the south, takes in the wide, stony summit area and ends at the next depression, Broad Crag Col, c. 920 m (3,030 ft). A more inclusive view also takes in two further tops: Broad Crag, 934 m (3,064 ft) and Ill Crag, 935 m (3,068 ft), the two being separated by Ill Crag Col. This is the position taken by most guidebooks. North of Ill Crag is the more definite depression of Calf Cove at 850 m (2,800 ft), before the ridge climbs again to Great End.Scafell Pike also has outliers on either side of the ridge. Lingmell, to the north west, is invariably regarded as a separate fell, while Pen, 760 m (2,500 ft), a shapely summit above the Esk, is normally taken as a satellite of the Pike. Middleboot Knotts is a further top lying on the Wasdale slopes of Broad Crag, which is listed as a Nuttall.Plan my trip to Seathwaite with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.

Scafell Pike Mountain Reviews
Having done snowden we wanted to complete this mountain too, unfortunately the weather was misty so not the best view and the climb itself was very challenging as it's all stone and very steep . I wou... more »
Arrived in the car park, after instructions from our Hostel receptionist to take the Wasdale Route. Wise move. It's the shortest route up. He also sold us a map (do NOT go up without a map and compass... more »
We recently walked up Scafell pike it was a good walk. However is quite rocky at the top so suitable footwear is needed. And it is quite a long walk so you may want to take a packed lunch. But it is a... more »
A lovely walk with stunning views but make sure you pick a nice day to do it because one time I hiked it, it was very rainy and windy. Although I have done it on a nice day which was a pleasant experience.
Awesome hiking location! Beautiful scenery all around. Although the cloud cover got worse as we neared the summit so visibilty was poor at the top! Would recommend checking the weather to arrange a day with high probability of good weather. Make sure you are prepared with map and good kit.
Follow the path and turn right up the gap you won't regret it... The walk is tuff if you rush, but a steady pace and your be there in 3/4 hours the footpath is well maintained for those walking on track.. The summit was misty and clouds were present but cleared to leave a breath taking view.... Do you need sticks ?? I would say yes.. Good walking boot yes or something that waterproof with grip as you have to cross some small river sections... A light rain jacket yes and some waterproof trousers yes... Some water and a couple of sandwiches should do just fine...
I hiked up there in December. Proper winter conditions which I was hoping to get. It was snowy and foggy on the way up. Vision was limited but the hike itself was a great adventure. Happy to have made it as I lost path on a few occasions.
Great mountain to hike. Great views all around you. But there is one thing to remember. Please do not underestimate it. I have done The Snowdon and Ben Nevis few times so I was thinking, this one 978 m eeeasy. But honestly the hike takes the same time and when you think this is the summit, it is not. Once you reach the top it is well worth it. Also I would highly recommend to spend 2-3 days in this area as Lake District National Park is an awesome place.
