  • In the August 2017, I went with my sister the Great Glen Way in 7 days. Our stations were: Fort William - Gairlochy - Laggan - Fort Augustus - Invermoriston - Drumnadrochit - hole Laide - Inverness. The Scottish nature and hospitality has impressed us and we enjoyed our day in the North. The trail is very well signposted, so that it comes out well without a card. We have chosen the high route twice and would do it again, the view was just amazing! You should be prepared for rain and wind. We had not coached before, but we are both of us used to to hiking. The tracks were mostly flat, rarely there stronger gradients. The long asphalt tracks were a single negative point. We would further recommend the GGW anyway!

Where to stay in Inverness

You’ll easily find bed and breakfasts and guesthouses convenient to the center of town in Inverness, from the cozy to more large-scale places, often with a view down to the River Ness, which later joins Loch Ness. For more affordable accommodation, look for a few budget hostels, as well as camping and caravan sites. If you've got a car, consider staying just outside the city in a quiet village, where you can explore the city by day and nature by evening. Since this is the largest city in the Highlands, you'll probably be able to find something last minute, but if you have a specific type of accommodtion in mind, it's a good idea to book in advance.
