Loch Lomond, Scotland

4.5
#30 of 222 in Nature in Scotland
After a string of head-turning, critically acclaimed releases on Hush Records, Portland's Loch Lomond has brought their unique brand of raw symphonic chamber pop to locally based record label Tender Loving Empire. Loch Lomond released their much anticipated second full length 'Little Me Will Start A Storm' for release in 2011, and is currently recording new material.

The album was mixed by Adam Selzer (who has recorded all of M Ward's records), Tucker Martine (Laura Veirs, The Decemberists), Kevin Robinson (of Viva Voce), and Jeff Stuart Saltzman.

In addition to employing notable visceral and expert melodic acrobatics, the co-ed sextet of Loch Lomond distinctly incorporates the use of vibraphone, piano, guitars, mellotron, clarinet, flute, drums, bass, and other sonic treatments to foil the even more distinct and arresting voice of lead singer/multi-instrumentalist Ritchie Young. He's able to switch from high-pitched fragility to alto thunder in the turn of a phrase, yet he knows the power of restraint intuitively, saving vocal tornadoes for emotional apexes buoyed by string swells and moving arrangements.

  • If you plan to just pop in for a look at the sea there are quite limited access to the view of the sea. A ferry trip is really the way to see it, because most of shores are private and not accessable  more »
  • Largest lake in Scotland. The west side has a cosy place, Luss. Boat excursions leave from here. To the South the larger town Balloch. The mountains are lower here than on the north side. The road between Tarbet and Ardlui is pretty narrow and slingerig. The rest here is delicious.

  • Given that this Loch (Lake) is very popular in Scotland and the subject of a very well known and popular song sung in pubs, a stage is highly recommended. The big lake is very impressive and worth a stop at one of the small countries to its shores to begin to see life in a small company.

  • Another stunning place to visit. We stopped at Luss, which is situated on the shore of the Loch, a very pretty village. Very commercial, but still breathtaking. We took a boat trip across the Loch, very beautiful. If you get a chance to visit, please do. I want to go back again, lots more to explore.
  • This fresh water lake is lying across highlands and largest among all Scottish lakes. The very famous fresh water island Inchmurrin, British Isle’s largest fresh water island, is in this lake. For the people, especially of Glasgow, this is a pure leisure destination. It covers an area of 71.12 sq km (27.46 sq miles).
  • We drove past Loch Lomond, while on our way to fort William. We were blessed by a bright and sunny drive, and what a sight it was..! The golden green mountains that turned into a perfect purple heather hue, the gurgling waterways gushing on the sides and the calm and serene loch...!!
  • Absolutely stunning!! Perfect for SEP the Christian activity camp.
  • Beautiful Scenery all around .
