Castle
Once acting as a Roman signal station, Scarborough Castle endured attacks by the Scottish and numerous continental forces. What remains today are the foundations of the medieval fortress as well as buildings added to the site until the 16th century. Make the visitor's center your first stop to purchase a ticket to the ruins site and view a display of artifacts found on the grounds. The attraction's website announces seasonal events that take place at the castle. Peruse the calendar prior to your arrival so you don't miss out on a reenacted pirate attack or the castle ghost stories. • I enjoyed this castle. The price seemed fair, the audio tour was free and interesting, good views and friendly staff. I enjoyed the walk around and found it all very interesting. I wished they had the abiltiy to get people to the top of the keep. The views could be amazing. The cafe drinks were nice, they had a range of wines and gins to try for free. The walk up to the entrance by road is very steep.
  • A bit pricey for a single family visit but the offer to join the English heritage scheme would make future visits to the castle and any other heritage site cheaper in the long run. The activities for the kids were interactive and ran for most of the day. Spent a good hour or so walking around the site reading the information stands which were very informative. We didn't take the tour as it had already started when we arrived but we did cross paths with it on the way round. The guide seemed to know his stuff and interacted with the children, keeping them involved. Great place to visit on a sunny day. Plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the scenery. Gift shop was pricey but they always are and it was all for a good cause.
  • English Heritage site so free entry to members. Very enthusiastic tour guide (almost too enthusiastic but good for keeping kids entertained), nice cafe, cleanest toilets I've seen at any English Heritage or National Trust site. Parking at bottom of the hill so there is a walk up (a steep walk up but parking in old church yard/grave yard was only £2 for upto 2 hrs but I would recommend 3 hrs), we took the offload buggy for our little one which was great on the grassy bits but would have been better off taking the carrier to use on the stairs. Overall a good 2-3 hours well spent, would visit again!
  • Been here a few times this year with our heritage passes to watch the knights & have a wander around its lovely when it's nice and sunny as there are picnic tables
  • Excellent castle with a really nice walk round the perimeter and great views over Scarborough. Well worth a visit.
