  • We'd planned to visit on Sunday morning but couldn't make it in the end. But views of it shilouetted against the morning and evening skies were fantastic. We climbed the hill to the general area late ...  more »

  • We didn't know Scarborough had a castle so we had to see it. Don't bother walking if you have difficulty walking as it is a steep climb mostly steps. However one there it was good. Great views over both beaches. We didn't know that either. Really enjoyed roaming round when we got our breath back.
  • Fantastic, we went in school holidays. Spend 5 hours. They had events for the kids with 'hands on history'. My children loved it and got very involved. The grounds are beautiful with lovely views of Scarborough. Cost about £14 for the family. The coffee and cake was good also.
  • Fantastic views over Scarborough town and both bays. Lovely grounds well kept. Idea for picnics and plenty of space for kids to play. Coffee/gift shop as well as the amazing castle keep. Well worth a visit but if you're expecting a fully restored castle full of antiques and suits of armour you'll be disappointed. The castle is a ruin but non the less still incredible and the knowledgeable staff will be delighted to give you all the info about it.
  • There simply aren't words to describe the beauty of this location. A place you shouldn't miss visiting if you are passing anywhere near Scarborough. Run by English Heritage (free for members except small additional charge for special events, non-members £6.50 adults, £3.90 children or £16.90 2 adults and 3 children), includes the ruins of the castle, vast fields, small museum, coffee shop, toilets and gift shop. The toilets could do with being cleaned more regularly, but otherwise an unmissable site
  • First time I visit a place I'm always concerned about where I am going to park the car. At Scarborough Castle, find Castle Road and travel along it uphill towards the castle. When you are nearing the castle, you will pass a church (St Marys) on your right. Now look for Church Lane on your right, at the far end of the churchyard. Go down Church Lane. A car park entrance onto a large field will be on your left. There's a small pay & display fee for parking. It is only a couple of hundred yards from this car park to the Castle front gate. Be ready for a fairly steep climb to get to the top field within the castle but the views when you get there are worth the effort and remember this castle has oodles of history.
