Make the visitor's center your first stop to purchase a ticket to the ruins site and view a display of artifacts found on the grounds. We'd planned to visit on Sunday morning but couldn't make it in the end. But views of it shilouetted against the morning and evening skies were fantastic. We climbed the hill to the general area late ...  more »

  • Great place to visit, the castle (its a Keep actually) dominates the sky line of Scarborough seafront. The Keep sits in huge grounds, which are largely empty of any other structures, you can't enter the the Keep as its only a shell of its former glory, getting to the castle is quite a long steep walk to get to, be warned! The walk is pleasant with places to sit to get your breath back, with great views of both bays, depending on which side of the Castle you are coming from. Overall worth a visit, but don't expect too much when you get in.
  • First time I visit a place I'm always concerned about where i am going to park the car. At Scarborough Castle, find Castle Road and travel along it uphill towards the castle. When you are nearing the castle, you will pass a church (St Marys) on your right. Now look for Church Lane on your right, at the far end of the churchyard. Go down Church Lane. A car park entrance onto a large field will be on your left. There's a small pay & display fee for parking. It is only a couple of hundred yards from this car park to the Castle front gate. Be ready for a fairly steep climb to get to the top field within the castle but the views when you get there are worth the effort and remember this castle has oodles of history.
  • Well worth a visit for the view alone. Good guided audio tour with the entrance fee. Probably takes 1-2 hrs to see it all as the perimeter is quite big to walk around, but on the other hand there are not masses of buildings or rooms to look inside. Please note: Access from the sea front isn't straightforward with a pram - best thing is to approach from the town (up at high street level) or there is a long winding ramp on the north side of the castle which starts at the coast road level.
  • Very historic building at the very top of Scarborough's headland. Very wide open spaces inside the castle ground which are perfect for children to run around. Great place for a picnic although it can get windy up there. Great views of both north bay, south bay and over looking the whole town. Parking limited so probably best to walk there.
  • Great day out. Bring a picnic! Great views over Scarborough and a very well presented guided tour
