Harbour View, Scarborough
(5/5 based on 15+ reviews on the web)
A large white lighthouse keeps watch at Harbour View. Here you'll find colorful seaside houses stacked on top of each other as well as many benches to sit on to watch boats, fishermen, and seagulls. Be sure to walk along both sides of the harbor, as their offerings differ greatly. One side is lined with cafes, ice cream shops, and pubs, the other features small fishing boats tethered to the dock. Watch for signage that outlines the harbor's historical significance as you walk along. • A fantastic October 2016 half term holiday in Flat 5 (there are five separate flats located at various locations off a common stairway). There are 55 steps to the flat but all worth it; views from the lounge and the kitchen are amazing across and over the harbour and the whole south bay from Luna Park to the remains of the Hollbeck Hall hotel. From the bedroom you look over the old town with the Market hall central. The whole area is steeped in history. Fascinating buildings on the doorstep mix with steep steps up the hill. You can get to the castle entrance via several different routes; it's very close but all routes to the castle are steep. You can have a holiday without leaving the flat, simply by watching the goings on of the harbour. The speedboats load and unload right underneath the window. At the end of the holiday we had a ride on both the speedboat and an hour cruise on one of the former Dunkirk boats. The flat is very clean and much more comfortable than the awarded star rating. The sofa bed may need some extra padding but no other gripes. You need to adjust both the input and outputs on the storage heaters to suit your tastes (we like it colder than most!). And the flat is quite small for four (we had a 4 and a 6 year old) but I am guessing spot on for two. The flat provided us with an excellent holiday. Definitely recommended.
