Like all castles in this region of Castle Fraser has much history. Among other things, also a Fund and the restoration of a world map from the 16th century.

We visited while on our way from Elgin to Aberdeen not knowing what to expect and were delighted with this beautiful castle and grounds. As NT members we try and visit properties wherever we go, and t...  more »

Worth a visit this small castle with large garden and small playground in the trees. Paid parking (£ 2) and then you reach the entrance of the Castle back from where you have access to the tower with a long spiral staircase. The rooms are on the sides of the ladder and open to the public. Interesting secret room access to spy in the Salon is nice view from the terrace at the top of the tower. The staff is very helpful and courteous. You cannot access with backpacks or bags I am guarded the entrance.

  • A lovely castle, with beautiful rooms in great condition and richly furnished. The guides in each room are very knowledgeable and friendly. They're happy to talk to you for hours, I suspect, but also happy to let you wander on your own if you're in a hurry. I got a dose of history in the living room, and then skipped the rest due to time. The Library is particularly impressive, but also the nursery. Then you go outside and up into the original tower, which is above the library - quite an amazing sense of history here, in a castle that was continuously occupied by one family for 600 years. The surrounds are beautiful, as is the little chapel. The staff were talking about very tangible experiences of a ghost or ghosts!
  • We came when the castle was closed (just after new years), but still had a walk around. It's not the most grand of places - I am not sure why it is called a castle or what classifies a castle, but if you expect one of those places from tales - it won't be. It is a larger house and has beautiful gardens. I assume it would be a good place if you have kids as there is a playground as well.
  • Best place close by me. Ancient castle currently housing Aberdeen Art Gallery's temporary exhibition; beautiful woodland walks; and a great play park for the kids. And there's the amazing rose garden too. Oh and the water garden. Oh and all those other walks in the estate ... Oh and the garden centre close by that does great good value food... and so on.
  • Great children's play area with lots of things to do. Also good for a walk round the estate.
  • Nice place to visit and great kids play area
