Trip Planner:   Europe  /  UK  /  England  /  Isle of Wight  /  Sandown  /  Dinosaur Isle
Built in the shape of a giant flying dinosaur, Dinosaur Isle maintains a large collection of fossils collected from the isle. Museum curator Steve Hutt discovered the fossil of a large, predatory dinosaur, which he personally named Neovenator. See the dinosaur displayed in the museum, and try out some of the interactive activities. Little ones can uncover their own dinosaurs in the mini sand excavations. Older, more tech-savvy kids will enjoy the robotic dinosaur models and interpretive apps available for smartphones. There’s no place to get food inside, so don’t go in hungry. Put Dinosaur Isle into our Sandown trip planning tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • First you get a discount off of the parking deducted of your entry which is great if you plan to visit Sandown. Really interesting place when you take the time to read about the exhibits. Kids enjoyed it immensely (what child doesn't like dinosaurs)!?. Rather small in scale but delivers considering the entry fee. Worth while allowing kids to play upstairs to kill some time. Activities include painting and drawing as well as an abundance of soft toys and a small train set. Some other exhibits to be seen also.
  • Good place to visit. Only lasts a couple of hours at best really. Entrance fee is fairly priced for the time spent there. (Get a free return within 7 days again) Very good for children around 8, for learning purposes. My kids are 5 & 2 and they both enjoyed it. But they both love dinosaurs. Very educational and the displays are really good. With onsite palaeontologists, you can feel bones and ask them anything you want. They had a couple of adventure trails aswell which helped keep the them interested. Overall not bad for a couple of hours out.
  • Fantastic place. A relatively small museum packed with interactive, hands-on exhibits. Quality displays of artwork, animatronics, well-stocked shop. - Really well-pitched to interest small kids, young people and adults - Pay and display parking (free out of season) - Maybe 1hr 30 for the whole museum - Popular and sometimes full - Lots of local interest
  • nice little museum of dinosaurs not very big but big enough for the kids otherwise they get bored quickly interesting facts fossils and interactive activities for the kids.
  • Excellent place, it'll literally take you to the dinosaur era. I loved it.
