Trip Planner:   Europe  /  UK  /  England  /  Isle of Wight  /  Sandown  /  Dinosaur Isle
Built in the shape of a giant flying dinosaur, Dinosaur Isle maintains a large collection of fossils collected from the isle. Museum curator Steve Hutt discovered the fossil of a large, predatory dinosaur, which he personally named Neovenator. See the dinosaur displayed in the museum, and try out some of the interactive activities. Little ones can uncover their own dinosaurs in the mini sand excavations. Older, more tech-savvy kids will enjoy the robotic dinosaur models and interpretive apps available for smartphones. There’s no place to get food inside, so don’t go in hungry. Put Dinosaur Isle into our Sandown trip planning tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Lovely staff. Small but loads to see and do with interactive and activity areas. Work sheets provided. Lots of information with pictures, models and things to read. Great gift shop. Reasonable prices for a day ticket and also for regular visitors.
  • A good spot to spend an hour, too small for anything longer (essentially, one large warehouse room with a shop and upstairs activity area). Well done, good staff, excellent fact sheets / quizzes etc.
  • Fantastic displays and descriptions. Plenty for the kids to do and loads of buttons to press. The activity sheets for the kids really help them to read, understand and learn.
  • A good place to spend an hour. Our 3 year old thought the Dino models and interactive exists were the best. All day ticket and on site parking is handy, especially for a late afternoon loo break for the little ones. Friendly staff and comprehensive gift shop.
  • Small but perfectly formed. My 3 and 6 year old boys both got something out of this visit. It's a very interactive place to visit with lots they are happy for the children to touch and explore.
