Dinosaur Isle, Sandown

3.4
#4 of 23 in Museums in Isle of Wight
Built in the shape of a giant flying dinosaur, Dinosaur Isle maintains a large collection of fossils collected from the isle. Museum curator Steve Hutt discovered the fossil of a large, predatory dinosaur, which he personally named Neovenator. See the dinosaur displayed in the museum, and try out some of the interactive activities. Little ones can uncover their own dinosaurs in the mini sand excavations. Older, more tech-savvy kids will enjoy the robotic dinosaur models and interpretive apps available for smartphones. There’s no place to get food inside, so don’t go in hungry. Put Dinosaur Isle and other Sandown attractions into our Sandown holiday planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

Our young children thoroughly enjoyed the visit, lots of activities for them to do. Lots of information for us "grown ups". Parts could do with upgrading but was fine. Not as big as I expected, spent ...  more »

We had seen this place from a distance last time we came to the IOW and decided that this time we would go. You can park behind the place, costs £3.40 but you get £2.50 back on your admission with the...  more »

What better way too spend a dull, windy afternoon with the grandchildren particularly if you plan ahead and use up loyalty points from a well known supermarket chain. The whole experience cost us just...  more »

  • The kids enjoyed it and were kept busy with an activity sheet, although I think there were maybe too many questions and they got bored answering them towards the end. There were many discarded sheets around so it couldn't have just been my my kids. The exhibits were good and very Informative. Would rather be out in the sunshine but it's a good option from or a wet afternoon.
  • Reasonably priced. Children enjoyed it and it's well laid out over a large area.
  • Very good place for kids. We spent couple of hours and was worth a visit. Good activities for kids, not for long though.
  • An interesting display and loads of information focusing heavily on the fossils of species found on the island.
  • Only for families with children. Very interesting stories and exhibitions. Visited in 10-15 minutes
