Dinosaur Isle, Sandown

Categories: Natural History Museums, History Museums, Museums
Inspirock Rating:
3.4/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web
Built in the shape of a giant flying dinosaur, Dinosaur Isle maintains a large collection of fossils collected from the isle. Museum curator Steve Hutt discovered the fossil of a large, predatory dinosaur, which he personally named Neovenator. See the dinosaur displayed in the museum, and try out some of the interactive activities. Little ones can uncover their own dinosaurs in the mini sand excavations. Older, more tech-savvy kids will enjoy the robotic dinosaur models and interpretive apps available for smartphones. Thereโ€™s no place to get food inside, so donโ€™t go in hungry. Put Dinosaur Isle and other Sandown attractions into our Sandown holiday planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • For lovers of dinosaurs and for people not that interested in dinosaurs I challenge you to not like this museum. There are hands on displays of fossils and a pit where you can dig up your own dinosaur...  read more »
  • Though we were two adults we felt that this museum would be equally fascinating to youngsters from three years upwards. Lots to see, feel, smell, hear, draw and learn. Many hands on activities for all...  read more »
  • Very interesting. Lots to do. Rubbings to take. Moving dinosaurs. Questions and answers. Great for children.
  • Dinosaur Isle is a place we love to visit when on the Island. There are quizzes for the kids, excavating sands to find bones, animatronic dinosaurs and more information than you could possibly take in from one visit. You can also get hints as to which beaches to visit too as there as some that still contain ammonites! This place doesn't have a cafeteria but there's a nice place just over the road. Also, don't forget to take your parking ticket tear-off coupon to the main desk when you pay as you get money back! It's all good ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜
  • A little pricey for what it offers and wouldn't honour the 10% discount for having zoo tickets which is advertised on their own website. Probably a great visit if you have a family. Many of the interactive exhibits were either broken, being refurbished or generally unloved.
  • Small, but packed dinosaur centre. A real enthusiast will love it. Reasonable prices and also a gateway for the famous guided fossil tours.
  • Lots of fossils. Pretty good for a smaller dinosaur museum in the heart of British Dino country.
  • Good for people enjoying dinosour. Nice place but expected like National History Museum so was bit disappointed.
