  • Beautiful and strange. 'Lots' of tourists once you find derek jarmans garden but still quite otherworldly. I'm already dreaming of going back and just being in the stillness.  more »
  • One thing is for certain there is nowhere like it. It all shingle with one storey huts that people live in. Many started life as train carriages and have been extended. A narrow gauge railway services...  more »
  • We visited this area on our "south coast" trip. This place reminds me american movie scenes, when travelers go through desert and there are wrecks of rusty cars, rotten buildings every here and there....  more »

  • Unique place with wooden houses, boats on beach, and abandoned winches etc littered across the landscape. really good RSPB RESERVE here too. Lighthouse to climb up and a railway. Free parking, lots to see. Train station had good cafe and gift shop. Strange to see power station amongst it all, never been anywhere so strange on the UK coast, my boys loved it!
  • At certain times of the year it's a birdwatchers paradise, with all sorts of unusual species either passing through, or on their way in our out of the country. At all times it's a slightly unusual place, with wood and tin shacks dotted around, and a massive nuclear power station a brooding presence in the background. On top of all this it also has a miniature railway line going as far as Hythe
  • This is one of those places that you can quite put in to words, you just have to go there. On the surface its pebbly type beach and emptiness looking away from the sea is wast captivates. There are little bits of machinery left on the beach in quite artistic ways. Its not a place i would swim at but its is a great place to be yourself and see the different side. there are a few gems to get snacks at. Parking wasn't a problem for us and the pilot in nearby was a good fuel stop for me, with one of largest fish dishes i have seen, a welcome sight... This place is diff rent, not sure about the interest for younglings, however i was captivated...
  • I live here and it's great in late May each year. Do also checkout the sound mirrors
  • My friends and I had a nice stroll around Dungeness before stopping at the 'Light Railway Cafe' for lunch. While not quite gourmet, the food was nice and the staff friendly and chirpy.
