A slice of history, Rye Castle Museum sits inside a tower built in 1249 to defend against French attacks. Commissioned by Henry III, this structure now houses displays of handmade pottery, local embroidery, old town maps, and many other medieval artifacts. The museum's other building is a former factory showcasing firefighting equipment, maritime history, shipbuilding techniques, antiques, and other items from Rye's past. • Small but informative and the exhibits are varied with interest. Relies on donations as no admission fees charged so support this little exhibition.
  • The brochure promised us far more than we got out of our visit. The exhibits were poor, the view not as spectacular as we expected. The herb garden lacks ecplanations with the plants.
  • Pretty little castle with lovely views we spent just over an hour there the children found it really interesting if you have an hour spare I recommend taking a visit
  • We visited the tower in September 2015, the entrance fee was a mere £3 but we paid only £2.50 as senior citizens and worth every single penny. We were greeted by a very amicable chap at the entrance who was more then happy to tell us the history of the tower and answer any questions we had to ask. We were there for a good hour viewing the tower and the grounds and left very happy with a few memorable photos and historical memories. Well worth a visit.
  • A small museum but very interesting. The staff were enthusiastic and helpful. Great history of the coast and the smugglers!
  • Nice place to chill6
  • Absolutely fascinating and some good interactivity. A bargain at £3.
  • Disappointed. Was more of a tower
