The Herb Farm Reviews
Arrived at 16:15 to be advised that they were closing at 16:30. Therefore tea and coffee provided in one-use cups. Somehow that doesn't give a very welcoming impression. As customers our requirements ... more »
Coffee was ok, but paying the best part of £7 for a sandwich advertised as containing 'vintage cheese' but which was actually made of insipid pre-grated mush is a bit of an insult.. very poor. The loc... more »
Nice place to go for a few hours, they have a large selection of herbs and plants. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Nice little restaurant with home made cakes etc and fresh coffee. more »
It's unfortunate that I have to leave this negative review as I usually have a good experience here but felt robbed the last time I visited so am very unlikely to return. The location is nice but I have noticed on multiple visits that the chef has struggled a little to get out a consistent and good hollandaise sauce and also has a tendency to deliver an overdone or "Hard-boiled" poached egg as opposed to one with a runny middle. My experience on my last visit really is what will make me think twice before returning. We had to send my wife's breakfast back twice and gave up at this point. We were both very hungry and I expected it to be rectified after sending it back the first time so I ate mine in the meantime which was just about alright and once I was done, we got the second failed one with soggy bacon and hard boiled eggs rather than poached eggs which we sent back so she was left hungry with no breakfast. We brought this to the managers attention and were told that the chef was ill. That's fair enough and I know this can happen sometimes but surely that is not our fault and we shouldn't end up losing out? Maybe inform us beforehand so we can decide whether to chance it and accept the consequences or to go elsewhere? The manager didn't seem too bothered about finding a solution and just got the bill for what we had. There were no concessions made for ruining our Sunday morning, just simply an "oops too bad and pay for what you had and leave...." More than a failure to provide a good service, the manager evidently was not trained properly and did not seem to understand the concept of 'we are your customer, you messed up so we shouldn't lose out and do what you need to do to fix it!'. Very very disappointing and we left feeling deflated and rather annoyed. If you are thinking of visiting, maybe make sure that their normal chef is not ill and if he is there, make a special request for a runny yolk so they pay a bit more attention to this if you order the poached egg.
The Herb Farm just gets better. The shop has a huge range of beautifully displayed upmarket food, gifts and homewares. Thank you for saving me a trip to Liberty's. I learn something new with every visit: this time I found a mint plant that smelt of bananas, and another that was a dead ringer for a box of After Eights. Remarkable. Prompt service in the cafe. I loved the fresh mushroom soup, decorated with herbs from the garden; your carrot cake was top notch, too. Keep up the great work! See you soon!
Helpful staff, good selection of plants though not a great variety of herbs despite the name. Also a nice cafe.
Good place for coffee catch up with friends. Needs to have a better selection of cakes, ( nut free / gluten free)
Today we had to have paper plates and mugs. They were re doing floor in restaurant side and could not use dishwasher in kitchen???? BUT NO REDUCTION IN PRICE. A TINY. VERY TINY PIECE OF CAKE EACH AND 2 TEAS £14??????? HELPING TO PAY FOR THEIR FLOOR????? I don't want to.
