St. Augustine's Golf Club, Ramsgate
(4.3/5 based on 10+ reviews on the web)
St. Augustine's Golf Club is a private members club that prides itself on having the reputation of being a very warm and welcoming club to both guests and visitors alike. Situated in the Pegwell Bay area of The Isle of Thanet the Club was established in 1908. St. Augustine's Golf Links was originally designed by Tom Vardon with some holes adjacent to the sea shore. Unfortunately these holes were prone to flooding and after this land was requisitioned for logistical purposes during the 1st World War the course was reduced in size and redesigned to fit into the remaining land. Today this has resulted in a compact but very popular Golf Course that is well maintained and highly manicured.

The Golf Course is reasonably flat with tight challenging holes and having six par three's requires a degree of accuracy to score well. Par for the course is 69 and the standard scratch score is 66 from the white tees and 65 from the yellow tees with an overall length of 5,254 yards.

  • Great condition course with consistent paced greens. For the most part a flat course with minimal gradients an only a few tricky slopes on the greens. Worst problem is yardages.. few markers on the fairways so a gps device is definitely recommended. I played here in the hottest September for over 100 years and yet the greens were very receptive. The fairways were also green for the most part an even the tee boxes were soft enough to accept a tee with minimal effort. 2 practice nets adjacent to the 1st give you a chance to loosen up before commencing your round. Also there is a tidy practice green nearby. One other bonus here is the bar prices very reasonable indeed.
  • Great course when it's not water logged. Drainage is better these days. Nice staff.
  • We are a small society but this made no difference to the welcome we received. Lovely coffee on arrival, we found the golf course in excellent condition. We decided to have a meal after the golf what a surprise perfectly cooked beef, pork and turkey on offer with lots of veg. Then the sweet trolley WOW a real treat. Yes we will be back. The Fitzwalter Arms G S
