  • We decided to call in here on our way from Hexham to Durham. SatNav took us by what was probably the most direct route – via Ovington – but we baulked when we did a sharp right turn onto Station Road ...  more »
  • Visited today and it is well worth a visit Very old castle with lots of history. Staff on site were excellent and very friendly and knowledgable. Would recommend a visit to it.  more »

  • Not a huge amount to see but all very nice. Two rooms of display boards inside and a small gift shop. You can walk a loop round the outside of the inner keep and there are a few bits to explore and see. One set of steps to climb to get to the chapel. You can then walk round the outside of the castle and see the ruins of a watermill. You could maybe spend two hours if you really read everything and take your time. We were around an hour. Very pretty and a good example of a castle, just not a huge amount open to the public
  • Traditional Looking Castle , huge history well documented in Displays and information boards .... good place for the kids to play or ideal for a family picnic , well stocked shop , however no cafe on site
  • Very informative exhibition with an interesting past. To make visit worthwhile read about the history of the castle first in the exhibition rooms then go adventure.
  • Called in with the idea of taking a light lunch before exploring the castle, abandoned that plan when told (by a very helpful & friendly staff member) that there's no cafeteria there and directed us to a local garden centre for the light lunch. Next time it'll be lunch en route & explore the castle!
  • A really impressive castle with a memorable history.
