The National Museum of the Royal Navy was created in early 2009 to act as a single non-departmental public body for the museums of the Royal Navy. With venues across the United Kingdom, the museums detail the history of the Royal Navy operating on and under the sea, on land and in the air.

We currently have HMS Warrior, HMS Victory, HMS M33 and other attractions at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, aircraft at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton, HMS Caroline in Belfast and HMS Trincomalee in Hartlepool.

  • So much to see but many of the displays do not function as well as they could. The "touchscreen table" for want of a better phrase is exceptional and super informative once you realise it is a touchsc...  more »
  • I travelled down from Essex on the train to see this grandly-titled museum, expecting a huge display of naval history for my £18, but what I got was an amateurish collection of memorabilia which took ...  more »
  • With only enough time to choose between this museum and the DDAY Museum .. I’m sad to say I chose wrong. There is very little “museum” here - no chronological context, no real history... it’s simply a...  more »

  • We arrived on a sunny day with a slight breeze so that was good. We bought our tickets online for £31 each. You can park just around the corner for £7 , there's a co-op there so it's worth getting a few drinks and sandwiches if you want. After having our bags checked we went to the submarine museum across the water using the water bus which is included in the price -great!. We then did the various museums, toured Victory -great, had ice-cream (£2 for cone is fair) We also saw the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier- not part of the museum yet though! After a break we then walked around Warrior , great , we really enjoyed it . We'd recommend it 👍
  • This is a lovely museum. If you have a full navy ticket, it is definitely worth a visit. The Nelson exhibition is very impressive and has a lot of interactive elements. The main exhibition area has a surface computer which is a huge touch screen with almost limitless amounts of information. This was the most impressive part of the museum I feel. The Jolly Roger exhibition was also a lot of fun. The only disappointment was that so many of the interactive parts like the buttons under displays and the touch screen displays don’t seem to work - considering the price we pay to get in, you’d think they’d have a look at that! Otherwise, an enjoyable visit for about an hour or so.
  • It took us two visits to see all of the exhibits here. The place is fabulous! The Nelson exhibition is the best I've ever seen. We enjoyed our visits so much that we're returning in the Spring for more. You have got to get here.
  • One of the attractions available with a Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Annual Pass. You walk in through a gift shop and there's a large room to the right that is dedicated to Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson and the main museum exhibits are in a number of rooms to the left. I would combine this with a visit to at least one of the main ships or the harbour tour otherwise you will spend most of the day reading!
  • If you are interested in naval history, this place is a must visit. There are so many exhibits from all time periods over the history of the royal navy. Seeing modern aircraft carrier displays next to 18th century 2nd rates was awesome. The model ship dioramas are detailed and a blast to look at. I will definitely be checking it out again if I am ever in the area. The fact that there are amazing ships with fantastic backgrounds is a bonus.
