  • Excellent day out on the Seaside Special from Pickering to Whitby and back. Steam locomotive on the way out and vintage diesel on the return journey. Informative guide book and helpful friendly volunteer staff. Would have loved more opportunity to look at the locomotives but despite us arriving early for both departure and return we were encouraged to board quickly whilst the engine swapped ends affording little opportunity to have a good look at these beauties. Next time we will be sure to alight at Grosmont where all these lovely vehicles are kept and maintained. Perhaps then we will be able to take some better photos rather than through windows of a moving carriage. Thank you to all volunteers and staff involved in producing such a memorable day.
  • We travelled on a Pullman Dining Train. You have to book well in advance because they are very popular and I now know why. The whole experience is absolutely excellent and I would thoroughly recommend it. We have travelled on the British Pullman and on The Statesman and this little heritage line provides a genuine Pullman dining experience that really is superb. You can choose between lunchtime or evening trains. We chose lunchtime. The journey is a round trip lasting about two and three-quarter hours and you can get off at Pickering to stretch your legs and watch the locomotive change ends for the return journey. Lunch is a three course meal with wine, followed by tea or coffee and was delicious. You choose when booking from three alternatives for each course. For the train buffs amongst you, the carriages are BR Mark 2 painted and decorated in true Pullman livery and comfort interiors. The seats are not armchairs (as in in the British Pullman originals) but are very comfortable.
  • Amazing day on the steam we got the 9.20am train Pickering to whitby which gets you there around 11 30am And returned on the 2pm to 4pm train. Amazing journey staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Beautiful scenery and nice pleasant smooth ride. Great day out kids loved it!
  • Great experience, the steam train is really impressive. Refreshments are available on board as is a toilet. But not worth doing as my husband went and got us a coffee and missed half the journey waiting in the queue! Dog friendly. We went all the way to Whitby and spent around 3 hours there.
  • We took the Bronze Seaside Special return from Pickering to Whitby wifh a 3 hour stop in Whitby. Very scenic route, even better because we had glorious weather. Old fashioned seating, ours was open plan with tables but some had their own compartments with very narrow corridors, and you kept same seats both there and back. Buffet bar available for refreshments. Staff welcoming and friendly, which added to a positive experience of a grand day out!
