Trengwainton Garden, Penzance

4.3
#2 of 14 in Parks in Penzance
A garden of special plants nurtured for generations by those with a passion for their beauty and extraordinary story.

First to make their mark was Sir Rose Price in 1820, who built the walled kitchen garden to the dimensions of Noah's Ark. It was the Bolitho family though, investing in the plant hunting expeditions of the 1920s, who gave the garden its special character; champion magnolias and award-winning rhododendrons, plus camellias, azaleas and stands of giant tree fern glades.

Stroll uphill beside the stream to the Terrace for glorious sea views.

  • They have many collections of spring flowers. Perhaps if we went in the spring it would be much better. There's nothing much in the garden in the summer. But they have several huge magnolia trees, whi...  more »
  • Trengwainton Garden is really a spring garden. Nevertheless it is worth while to come in any season. You just have to discover its charm. And I strongly recommend the walled gardens!  more »

  • Very tidy place, beautiful exotic plants and a real treat for the tropical gardener. Great views on a clear day to the sea. Games set out for the children and a very nice tea room adjacent to the gardens. Please go and see for yourself
  • Lovely garden to.wamder around. Different areas to experience. Woodland. Walled gardens. Sea views
  • Came here during the halloween half term activities, its a lovely garden with great welcoming from staff. The only dissapointment was that some of the activites were too busy and not spread out enough around the grounds so became over whelming with the amount of people so couldn't enjoy the activity properly. The toffee apple making was a huge dissapointment for my boys cued for ages to then be told they had run out of toffee. So all they had to do was grab an apple, put a stick in it and collect it finished later! ( The woman didn't even let one of my sons stick it in himself!) The staff dealing with the activities were grumpy and too controlling. Clearly didn't have time for children. The storyteller doing the storytelling however was fantastic, happy to chat and talk to the children before and after his fantastic spooky stories, the woman outside however constantly faffing if anyone dare stood on her mat outside the tent with shoes on was very intimidating especially if anyone came close to the tent when storytelling had already started, even just to read the sign!!!
  • Beautiful gardens. Some exotic and interesting plants. Gorgeous Sea views from the Terrace and an informative and interesting walled garden. Go! Xxx
  • Sub-tropical garden walks. Amazing walled gardens. Dogs on leads welcome.
