  • Our second visit and just as good as the first but with the added extra of the dragons egg hunt which entertained all the children (5 in total aged 2 - 8), crafts and circus skills workshop. Great val...  more »
  • Unfortunately we visited on a very cold morning which is definitely not the best time to enjoy the extensive grounds. The ruins are very imposing but mostly just a shell left so there's not that much ...  more »

  • Absolutely love this place. The castle is a wonderful sight and you can feel the history there. It's great to see the progress being made with the work and that it's the family loving it back to it's former grandeur. We didn't get to see the gardens, but spent time around the grounds and in the cafe. All the staff were friendly and polite. The cafe itself is gorgeous. Fabulous decor and ambience with lovely food and very reasonable. An absolute gem and we'll be back again for sure.
  • A FANTASTIC PLACE! We recently bought the whole family yearly passes for Lowther. That's how brilliant it is. Steeped in history the castle has been restored in parts to provide a really great walk around culminating in the peaceful extensive grounds. Dog friendly with great walks and a yummy restaurant to restore the energy. For us all, the play castle in the grounds is huge fun built for children and adults to play to their hearts content. We love it.
  • This is an hidden gem! Lovely walks, even in the snow. A nice cafe to return to and what must be one of the biggest adventure playgrounds for many a mile! There's an interesting history tour inside the castle itself, with a good selection of artifacts. There's a few food stalls in the main square and an interesting fire globe which I could have done with being lit in the sub zero temperatures!
  • Great place to take kids. The wooden castle for kids in the grounds is excellent. They also have other events on too, we went to dragon egg hunt for Easter around the woods. Also I noticed other children doing archery lesson's. The castle is definitely worth a visit. The owners are doing a great job. Thanks
  • Lowther Castle is a great day out. The ruined castle is tremendous to wander among. The grounds are lovely and interesting. Lowther Castle has the best children's play area in the shape of a castle. The views from the terraces across to the Lake District fells are stunning. Well worth a visit. There is plenty of parking and toilets and a cafe and a small shop.
