  • Lowther Castle and Gardens is well worth a visit. The castle is good to see, even though there are no rooms you can go in, as it is only really a standing front. The gardens are quirky and nice to wal...  more »
  • We spent a full chunk of the day here despite the wind and rain. Most of which was at the lost castle in the woods, nicely protected from the weather by the trees! The children also enjoyed wandering ...  more »

  • Lowther Castle and Gardens is a great visit for family and those wishing to explore. The gardens are beautifully laid out and the ruins are really impressive. The cafe whilst expensive served good quality food and tea/coffee - even some local beer to. The new children's lost castle area is absolutely brilliant though more geared to slightly older kids (5+). There is a toddlers area however. Some of the gardens have not been restored which was a bit of a shame especially when the pictures show how they once were. However I plan to visit Lowther Castle again in a couple of years. Some areas will have matured and developed. The castle itself is magnificent. I heartily recommend going.
  • A great place for a day out. Stunning landscaped grounds surround the ruins of the old castle. There's a Dan Pearson planting scheme in front of the ruins that adds a touch of class. Plenty of rolling acres to stretch your legs dotted with interesting features such as an orchard, woodland play park and refreshment cabin and great vistas out over the surrounding countryside. Really good cafe on site too.
  • Absolutely stunning place. Went in with only an hour and a half to see everything and it seemed rushed. Castle is being restored and they have done a truly amazing job and the additions to the 10,000 acre grounds are great (including the adult woodland playground). Can't wait to go back when they have finished some more as only one main room was available when I went.
  • Fantastic fun for all the family. £8 for adults, £7 for kids and under 5 free. There is something for everyone, the castle is great to look at and walk around for all, while the gardens on the way to the kids lost castle are interesting and diverse for the adults. Once you get to the huge children's play area you'll soon be overwhelmed with what a great job they have done. Highly recommended.
  • Fantastic place and a great day out for the family. It's run by an independent charity and the prices are really good for what you get. We had a lovely stroll, found lots of different areas, rope swings, grass bank slide (although not sure it was an actual feature 😂) and generally thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The shop was good too; we grabbed a lovely framed picture and a fridge magnet (of course!).
