Larch Cottage Nurseries
As host to over 15,000 varieties of plants, the vast majority of which are propagated on-site, we specialise in Rare and Unusual Shrubs, Perennials, and climbers, Japanese Acers, Old Fashioned Roses, and slow growing and Dwarf Conifers. For many of these varieties we are the country’s only suppliers as listed in the RHS Bible, The Plantfinder.Put Larch Cottage Nurseries and other Penrith attractions into our Penrith journey maker tool, and watch your holiday take shape.
On site we have the renowned La Casa Verde restaurant offering a taste of the Mediterranean using the produce of Cumbria, with a terrace overlooking the gardens and onto the Pennines beyond,
Adjacent is Red Barn Art Gallery featuring contemporary British artists and sculptors working in a wide variety of media.
We also have the Lower Red Barn which stocks a huge range of unique and unusual glassware, jewellery, tableware, ceramics, wall hangings, candles, wall sconces, tapestries, soft leather bags and much more.

Every time I visit the lakes Larch Cottages is always on my visiting list. It is the most wonderful place to be. Fantastic scenery and every plant you could wish for. The restaurant is fabulous. Beautiful Wisteria creeping around the balcony and birds visiting your table. Glorious scenery to feast on which ever way you choose to look. I look forward to my next visit and many, many more in the future.

Great selection of unusual plants set amongst gardens too see how they work with other combinations.

A magnificent garden to visit with stunning sculptures and exotic rare plants. Beautifully landscaped with lily ponds and Roman gardens decked with hostas and ferns. Inside a romantic stone folly is a restaurant serving delicious home made food and there is a lovely gallery and shop selling hand crafted unusual gifts. Well worth a visit. We go most weeks for plants and sculptures for our garden.

What an amazing place this is, set amongst faux Roman ruins, with just about every quality plant you can think of, this is a gardeners’ dream. I was looking for a specific deciduous pine but didn’t know the name and asked a young female member of staff if they had any and she immediately reeled off three Latin name options in stock and showed me each one. The pine I bought has a fantastic rootball and has settled in well!
