Glenkinchie distillery is a Scotch single malt whisky distillery in East Lothian, Scotland. It is one of the six distilleries in the Lowland region. It is owned by the drinks giant Diageo. The DistilleryGlenkinchie lies, as the name might suggest, in a glen of the Kinchie Burn near the village of Pencaitland, East Lothian. It is situated about 15 miles from Edinburgh. The distillery is set in farmland. The name 'Kinchie' is a corruption of 'De Quincy', the original owners of the land. Its origins date back to around 1825 when it was founded by brothers John and George Rate, While there are no direct records it seems likely that Glenkinchie is the Milton Distillery previous recorded in the area. The brothers probably renamed it in about 1837. In 1853, the Rate Brothers were bankrupted and the site converted to a sawmill. In 1881, the plant was rebuilt and whisky-making restarted under Maj. James Grey.In 1969 the distillery stopped malting its own grain and the malting floors were turned into a museum of malt whisky. The Glenkinchie label was relatively little known until 1989, when United Distillers started marketing it under their Classic Malts brand.ExpressionsGlenkinchie 12 Year Old Tasting notes: On the nose aromatic and floral notes. On the palate it is sweet with a slight liquorice aftertaste and a dry finish.Make Glenkinchie Distillery a centerpiece of your Pencaitland vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Pencaitland trip itinerary maker .

Brian from Glenkinchie was our guide for this tour and he was fantastic! I didn't know beforehand the process involved in making "malt whiskey" but through his expert knowledge and entertaining delivery he captivated my attention. Whether you are a whiskey-lover or not I highly recommend this tour! It was well worth it!!!
Was visiting from America. Our guide "Keith" was super informative and friendly. Had an absolute blast and learned so much. The grounds were amazing and clean. Can't wait to come back and visit the other Sites in Whisky passport.
This is great for whiskey lovers and first timers alike. The guide is amazing and you will learn the entire process of how scotch whiskey is made. Set in a beautiful building and surroundings you will enjoy every bit of the tour. Concluding with a tasting where the guides will help you find a whiskey you enjoy.
The tour was amazing & the facility is impressive. Make sure you got up the tasting room for some delicious Scotch!
Perfect whiskey tour for those who don't have time to head to the northern region. £10 for the tour with 2 tasters, £14 for the tour with 4 tasters, no student pricing. We ended up grabbing a couple of engraved glasses for £8 each as well. If you're driving, they do offer takeaway containers for your tasters
