Learn about the rich, bloody, and important history of this ancient castle, originating from 1093. Explore inside Pembroke Castle and have the scenes from its past brought to life by the castle’s exhibitions. Sculpted figures, sets, lighting, and a triggered audio sequence recreate scenes of interest, including a medieval banquet, the birth of King Henry VII, and a bloody Civil War battle between Cromwell’s troops and Royalists. Explore the labyrinth of passageways and towers, and take in the views from the 23 m (75 F28ft) Great Keep. Peer down into the medieval basement dungeon and spot the Pembroke “prisoner.” Enrich your understanding with a guided tour, available for a small fee. These need to be pre-arranged in low season, but they leave at scheduled times the rest of the year. Buy your tickets to Pembroke Castle in advance from their website to avoid queuing on the day. A perfect place to take the family, whether you want to learn local history or see spectacular views. Be careful with the stairwell in the great tower, they've been pretty well smoothed off!

Great castle. Fabulous views over Pembroke from several towers. Good accounts of historical events and information in and around castle. Kids enjoyed the visit. Clean open space for picnics with facts to read on tables. Good value for money.

Very well restored Norman castle in the centre of Pembroke. There are lots of places to clamber around to climb up towers and along walkways. Views from the towers are amazing in many directions, great views over the millpond. Exhibitions have been well thought out and are engaging. There is a guided tour, but I didn't experience it.

Good place to spend a few hours. Plenty for the kids to explore, climb and investigate irrespective of the weather! Loads of digestible history too for the grown-ups.

Enjoyed our first family visit to Pembroke Castle during August. The castle is spectacular and the history is well presented through different media. The giant map of Wales in the castle grounds is also a great addition. There was a knight school for the kids - a good idea, but a great shame that the activity didn't have more of a Welsh slant, linking more directly with the history of Wales, its culture, language, etc.
