Pembroke Castle, Pembroke

#1 of 9 in Things to do in Pembroke
Learn about the rich, bloody, and important history of this ancient castle, originating from 1093. Explore inside Pembroke Castle and have the scenes from its past brought to life by the castle’s exhibitions. Sculpted figures, sets, lighting, and a triggered audio sequence recreate scenes of interest, including a medieval banquet, the birth of King Henry VII, and a bloody Civil War battle between Cromwell’s troops and Royalists. Explore the labyrinth of passageways and towers, and take in the views from the 23 m (75 F28ft) Great Keep. Peer down into the medieval basement dungeon and spot the Pembroke “prisoner.” Enrich your understanding with a guided tour, available for a small fee. These need to be pre-arranged in low season, but they leave at scheduled times the rest of the year. Buy your tickets to Pembroke Castle in advance from their website to avoid queuing on the day. I was at Pembroke in passing, it was a beautiful sunny day and worth spending a few hours in this old Castle "externally"

  • A great castle to visit with beautiful views from the top of the tower/top of the walls. The guided tour is worthwhile as our guide was so passionate and interesting. It was also fun to let the kids participate in the dragon's parade. Cafe on site and picnic tables available. Would definitely recommend you to visit this splendid castle!
  • Everyone else is right, this is the best place to visit in Pembroke. It is a proper castle and it breathes history. Well worth the very reasonable £6.50 entrance fee if only for the 1 1/4 hours we were there because we have small children. Could have spent longer and a great place for pictures.
  • We had a very enjoyable day at Pembroke Castle. The entrance fee is very reasonable and the guides on the tours made it really interesting for adults and children alike. The Birds of Prey display was a bonus.
  • The castle is very well preserved. Not too much to see though. The café is good. We enjoyed the around the castle experience more than the castle itself.
  • A fantastic castle to visit, so much to see and explore. Fantastic sites to see. You can walk around pretty much all the way round. Small café offering food and refreshments. Certainly recommend a visit if your into historic buildings.
