Paignton Pier, Paignton

2.9
Home to Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera in the late 19th century, Paignton Pier is a pleasure pier that provided Victorian visitors with dancing, singing, and music over the water. A fire devastated the original buildings in 1919, but the pier was restored in 1980 with an extended arcade. From the outside it appears that a series of stylish buildings make up an avenue, but these "buildings" are actually one long entertainment complex with a carousel, bumper cars, slides, and games. Enjoy plenty of snack selections and a romantic view over the water. To visit Paignton Pier and other attractions in Paignton, use our Paignton trip planning website .

  • We loved our stroll along the pier and spent ages playing in the arcades. The pier did get quite busy and cramped, however, this was not a big issue. This pier is a typical British seaside pier and ou...  more »
  • Parts are quite dirty but lots of choice of games, rides and food etc. Not much space when lots of people with all the bits and bobs around. Great views. Lovely little arcade  more »
  • The worse Pier we have been on ! You had to walk through crowded noisy amusement arcades to get to the other end . The normal side walks were closed - they obviously want you to spend money in the exo...  more »

  • Just myself and my wife took a stroll down the pier, found it to be very clean and tidy. You can't however walk to the end without passing through a rather large arcade. While I'm not opposed to these, let's face it they are part of seaside culture, you might find it difficult to pass through if accompanied by young children. On the plus side many of the machines operate using 2p pieces, so it won't cost an arm and a leg to give them a little fun. The only down side was on the way out, we stopped for a coffee and bite to eat at a cafe, not sure what it was called but the food was awful, and served by a young girl who clearly didn't want to be there that day, all I can say is that it was on the left hand side as you leave the pier. Other than that a pleasant way to spend some time.
  • Sat in here now, the cafe is welcoming with a view of the beach. We enjoyed nicely cooked fresh fish and chips. The (assumed) owner as we purchased a cookie gave us a half broken cookie free for my son's journey home onow the train, just to be nice heartwarming gesture. The lemon tartlet cake is delicious we brought extra to take home!!
  • A great activity. Plenty of games and fun atmosphere for kids and adults alike
  • Great pier to spend a day or just an hour. Also Nice and warm in the winter nights and days. Lots of slot machines to play on.
  • Great place!! Fantastic view!! Wednesdays night, motorbikers meeting at the Pier. (Really cool people) Games for kids on it. Bars & pubs around it. Don't miss it. -1 star for the cold water ;-)

Where to stay in Paignton

A room near the harbor provides a view over the water. However, a historical cottage outside the town center may be the ideal getaway. A cottage offers seclusion, within walking distance of the town's main attractions.
