University of Oxford, Oxford

At University of Oxford, tread the same paths as some of history’s greatest thinkers, scholars, and world leaders. Oxford was the first university in the English-speaking world, existing in some form since 1096, and remains at the forefront of learning, teaching, and research. Explore where its students live and study by visiting some of the university’s 38 colleges, each with a distinct identity. The university boasts some of the world’s finest libraries and museums, with exquisite architecture. The Bodleian Library, dating from 1602, has one of the world’s most well-regarded collections. Its artifacts include a Gutenberg Bible, the earliest surviving book written in English, and almost 10,000 western medieval and Renaissance manuscripts. Visit the Ashmolean Museum, established in 1683 (making it one of the oldest museums in the world), and see works by Michelangelo, da Vinci, and Picasso. Rest your brain and stretch your legs in the University Parks’ 28 hectares (70 acres) of beautiful parkland, or climb the tower of University Church of St. Mary the Virgin, which offers panoramic views of the city. Check out some of the podcasts the University makes freely available, which include audio guided tours with different routes to choose from. • A must on the British circuit. Historic. Grand. Majestic. Soaring. Charm of centuries of history. I always wanted to feel the place and breathe the air that has produced giants in each walk of life. Prefer walking yours by students. Not free. Tip is deserved and expected after two hours of walking in damp bloody British weather. Gide will also tell you who killed who, where an how. Someone was killed with a sword while sitting on toilet; from below. Giant libraries. Some one could feel the seeds of a great nation nurtured around here.

  • Husband's Alma Mater and best 10 years we spent in UK. Charming, majestic and the 4 seasons are always something to look out for. Visit the libraries, and view some of the books that dates back centuries. Always amazed at how much we can learn from it.
  • An absolute delight to visit! What more can one ask for than to be able study in this old world haven of a place! Even my 6 year old was charmed by the architecture here.
  • The University of Oxford is one of the leading universities in the world. But the reason the university became so famous isn't simply because it's a great university. In fact, you could say the reason it's well-known is due to corruption. No one knows when Oxford was founded. ... Because Oxfordand Cambridge used their political power to block the foundation of other universities.
