St Catherine's College, Oxford

#205 of 260 in Things to do in Oxford
Welcome to St Catherine's - Oxford's youngest mixed (undergraduate and graduate) college - and one of its largest and most diverse communities. Though the 1962 opening of the College represented an important moment in our distinguished history, our roots stretch back to the 1860s.

St Catherine's - or Catz as it is affectionately known - is known for its spirit of openness, friendliness and dynamism, and the satisfaction of intellectual curiosity. Despite advancing within Oxford University's ancient tradition, our atmosphere is a distinctly modern one.

Our striking modernist College buildings and our beautiful grounds, designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen, aid our distinctiveness.

  • Wonderful architecture - nice place to stay, porters are very helpful
  • This is review is a rating based on the grounds of the college itself. Not in reflection to the teaching or education. Had a great time exploring the grounds. Go when the water has resided, the nearby Cherwell River causes flooding.
  • One of my favs. Open till' 10PM now, highly knowledgeable staff, relaxed, quiet, great venue.
  • Master work of architecture, St. Catherines's College. East of Oxford, on the bank of the Cherwell river. Buildings by architect Arne Jacobsen
