In a city of world class museums, the Museum of Oxford is the only museum to tell the history of Oxford and its people. Come and Explore Oxford in our aptly names galleries and find out about Oxford's past and present in two dramatically different spaces:

Explore the past - Walk into City Engineer, William White's office and step back into 1897 when the current Town Hall was first opened. Rummage through William White's desk drawers to find out what the City Engineer at Oxford Council was working on, check out his drawing table and get an insight into how much Oxford has changed since it was founded around 810 AD.

Explore the present - Continue into the modern Oxford Gallery and take a virtual high-speed bike ride. The four bike rides take you north, south, east and west from the Town Hall taking in the city's highlights as well as to places you don't normally get to see, including BMW's MINI plant.

The Museum of Oxford is so much more than our Explore Oxford galleries! With a temporary exhibition space showcasing top class exhibitions to an exciting education program for schools. We hold regular family activity days (check out our photos!) and have an exciting and progressive volunteer program. Our outreach services also engage local communities in their history, with reminisence sessions and projects that delve into our city's past.

The Museum of Oxford is developing so keep checking back for exciting news!

  • It is very small, just 1 room of fantastically well presented objects. Just pop in a visit it. 30 minutes will suffice. The maps of Oxford city through the years are great.  more »
  • Museum of Oxford is a very simple and free micro-shaped museum. Opened in 1975, the original site was the public gallery in Oxford. This is a museum with a history of Oxford. From the city, from the experience to the people's life, are unearthed, collected antiquities, molds, films and text to let you go to understand the development of Oxford City. It is known in the earththat that the ancient Oxford was just a small city pool. For many years, Oxford has been a very prosperous city because of its poor and high school capital. Celebrities come out, businesses and businesses. Moreover, there are certain achievements in the same culture. In other words, oxford is known as the university, but in other areas of the world, there are places where the people of Oxford enjoy themselves. Oxford, first published on the text, was probably 911 A.D. And the original castle, probably the 12th, 13th. Now the castle, the castle has been broken down, some of the castle has a chat, are placed in all sizes of natural museums. This Museum of Oxford has a collection of several of them.

  • I have been going to this museum since I was a kid and it's still as interesting now as it was then, don't take any notice of some of these reviews saying 'oxford could do better' it's not the size of the museum it's the wealth of information they have to offer and this LITTLE museum packs a lot into a tiny place! well worth visiting
  • wonderful place to visit would definitely recommend to others 6/10
  • nice place with a interesting facts and objects 7/10
  • Is the micro museum meant to be a joke in poor taste? In my opinion it is like the rest of Oxford, shabby, poorly exhibited and very disappointing. Is Oxford ashamed of its history? I have been to better village museums.
  • Tiny but very friendly museum. Worth half an hour to visit. And don't skip the gift shop.
