Bodleian Library, Oxford

4.6
Meander through the 400-year-old stacks of Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford. As one of the oldest libraries in Europe, the five-building cluster boasts original architecture and represents the university’s fascinating history. Visit the university’s oldest teaching room or admire the ornate decor of the main study halls. Take a guided tour for a complete interior and exterior viewing and to learn more about the university’s history. Plan to eat before or after your visit, as food and drinks are not served at the library. Taking the tour of the Bodleian Library is well worth the time and ticket price. Our guide was knowledgable and amusing, and the small size of the tour group was important so that we could all hear, a...  more »

  • We was overwhelmed. Even the kids loved this visit. I would like to come as a reader. All this old books.
  • The guide who took us knew a lot about the history of the library, we enjoyed the tour. A must visit if you are a fan of harry potter movies.........
  • Great experience. Apart from the 'Harry Potter' experience, the library has more to offer in terms of an interactive guided tour about the history of the library.
  • Didn't get to go inside but it is really beatiful even from the outside. You need to pay tour to visit the grounds I believe. It's definitely not free.
  • I'm an actual student at Oxford, and believe me, it's most certainly not the best library. How many libraries do you know that are closed on Sundays? For a busy researcher, it's a ludicrous and detrimental situation to have to deal with every week. As far as online searches go, there are not nearly as many available journals as I was able to find at Leicester University. The Bodleian Library is a nice historical monument. It needs improving, not mere entitlement to praise because it's old.
