McCaig's Tower, Oban

Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.3/5 based on 1,600+ reviews on the web
Designed and commissioned by the same man, John Stuart McCaig, McCaig's Tower is a monument to the McCaig family that was built by local stonemasons. The original plans included a museum, gallery, and a series of sculptures of the McCaig family. However, McCaig passed away with only the outer walls completed. These walls still overlook the water and islands with landscaped gardens in the center. The walls sit like a crown above the city, and you'll find photo-worthy views of them from the town center. • This looks very Roman in design but was basically built to provide jobs. It was never completed but is still very impressive.
  • Drove up and parked with plenty of space. Really great views all round and seriously worth a visit. Plenty of great photographs.
  • This place has a great view of the harbour and the general Oban area. The tower itself surrounds a lovely garden that has a very relaxing feel. A good place to soak up the fresh clear air and sunshine...  read more »
  • Beautiful view to the bay. The tower itself is a never finished project, just walls, but worths the few minutes walk from the town center. Best place to sit down and eat your sandwich while watching the beautiful panorama.
  • Quiet and calm place. 👍
  • Steep hike from the main road (parking is available too though!) but the views are worth it. Nice garden at the top but let down a bit by rubbish being left behind by inconsiderate folks. Definitely worth a visit and don't forget the camera.
  • A very lovely way to spend a dry afternoon in Oban. Great opportunity for nice photos on the way up
  • Great views over oben x
