City of Caves (Tigguo Cobauc), Nottingham

3.9
#3 of 13 in Parks in Nottingham
Discover an ancient, subterranean world at City of Caves (Tigguo Cobauc). Explore this labyrinth of caves that stretch under the busy city streets with actor-led tours or wander through at your own pace with an audio tour. Learn about how these caves were used as 17th-century dwellings, cellars, and even World War II air-raid shelters. Uncover the basement of the Drury Hill slums, all that remains of one of 19th-century Britain’s worst slums. To ensure a place on a guided tour, book in advance as they do sell out. The floor of the caves is uneven in places, so sensible footwear is a must. Put City of Caves (Tigguo Cobauc) into our Nottingham trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • We really enjoyed visiting here and found it to be very fascinating to learn what happened down there. Lots of history! I’d bring my boys here to visit. We took our time to look around and listen to t...  more »
  • This was a good experience however it was slightly overpriced. We took an audio tour which was fun however even with taking our time we got round the whole thing in an hour. It would be a fun experien...  more »
  • Never seen so many caves in my life .. We visited (and reviewed) the caves at Nottingham Castle yesterday and it's now somewhat difficult to compare that with today's visit to "Tigguo Cobauc". Does th...  more »

  • I'd like to start off by saying that Lauren our tour guide on Saturday 14th April (3.10pm tour) was absolutely amazing. She was hilarious and dealt with the young kids brilliantly.. even when one was very cheeky.. She made my little girl laugh so much. Very nice walk through the caves learning about the history of the caves and also about the water table and such.. This tour I would say is not suitable for pushchairs and with very low ceilings in places I would suggest if you were going to baby wear a front carry would be best. The tour takes about 45 minutes and is very informative... well worth the money in my opinion. Thanks for a great afternoon Lauren!
  • The caves themselves are interesting, but the staff ripped us off. We were charged full price for the guided tour, only to be sent round without a tour guide! Would not recommend visiting on a busy Saturday afternoon.
  • Perfect place where you can bring your children or some friends. It's strange that you are under the people who are doing shopping in the mall. The twenty first century..
  • Very informative. I learned alot about the caves under Nottingham & about night soil :) The tour guide was engaging, inclusive of all age groups & knowledgeable about his field. I would thoroughly recommend. The tour is about 1 hour long and is located in the shopping centre.
  • Brilliant and to think I didn't know that they were on the doorstep, well worth the money and our guide was brilliant she was very informative.
