Norwich Cathedral, Norwich

(4.5/5 based on 2,400+ reviews on the web)
Built in the 12th century and still holding services, Norwich Cathedral is one of 12 heritage sites in the area. Enter the cathedral through one of the two historic gates: the Ethelbert gate or the original gated entrance. Inside, you'll see 61 misericords, small wooden shelves also known as "mercy seats," carved on the underside of the folding chairs. Several hundred of the over 1,000 bosses (raised ornamental decorations) are carved and painted with ornate delicacy. A free guided tour will fill you in on the highlights. Tours are given daily, so there is no need to book ahead. The cathedral is an important cultural meeting place, with regular exhibits in the Hostry Visitor and Education Center and live music at the refectory. • One of the greatest cathedrals of England. Be sure to pay homage at the grave of nursef Edith Cavell executed in Belgium in 1915. After the war the government wanted to bury her in Westminster Abbey b...  more »
  • Welcoming and peaceful. Plenty to admire and contemplate. Give yourself plenty of time when you visit.
  • Not a overly large but well worth a visit the refectory in a lovely wood beamed building on the side

  • Huge place, fabulous inside. Great exhibits and has guided tours. Can easily spend an hour here. Decent gift shop.
  • A warm welcome and unrestricted access to the cathedral. No admission charge, but donations welcomed. Edith Cavell grave/memorial just outside the Norfolk Regiment chapel invites further exploration of the enormous precinct.
  • Fantastic place. It might be free to get in, but it takes a special person to ignore the staff asking politely for donations. Easy to spend a couple of hours in there. Beautiful and peaceful. We went to Norwich purely to see the cathedral. Well worth the money.
  • Lovely place, they even allow well-behaved dogs inside!
  • An impressive cathedral, apparently in need of money, no pressure though :)
