Natural History Museum
William the Conqueror's only castle in East Anglia, Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery is one of Norwich's 12 heritage sites. The museum holds important archaeological and historical artifacts inside its walls. The castle's galleries display ceramics, jewelry, glass, and textiles. The decorative art collection is the pride of the castle, so you might want to take extra time there. Find the history of the legendary Queen Boudica and the Vikings in the natural history gallery, and treasured paintings from Flemish artist Peter Tillemans among the art collection. One of the castle's largest collections is Margaret Fountaine's butterflies. Tour the castle and learn about its history through interactive displays. Also consider taking the separate popular tours of the dungeons and battlements. • I visited with my visually impaired mother and her guide dog; the team at reception offered advice about suitable tours and areas of uneven ground which may have caused an issue. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and we visited on a day when there were complimentary tours being offered! The 'Highlights tour' gave an interesting insight into some of the key prices within the museum. Loads there to see (and plenty for children). Not just a castle for sure!
  • Solid Norman keep. Bit disappointed I couldn't go up to the battlements unless on an official tour. Fun exploring though if you like medieval stuff, which I do. Also contains a pretty limited art gallery, taxidermy and some more interesting Celtic, Roman, Saxon, Viking objects.
  • A fun place to visit with a wide variety of exhibits with local relevance. The cafe is also very nice.
  • Interesting place with plenty of interest to see. The galleries have an eclectic range of things to see ranging from taxidermy to teapots. A bit madcap bit worth a look.
  • Interesting and well preserved castle with long history, serving as a prison for hundreds of years, the museum tells some gruesome tales. The museum also has other exhibitions relating to the Romans, natural history and a range of art. You can also book dungeon tours, which gives a good insight in to crime and punishment over the years in addition to the conditions prisoners would have lived in. Definitely worth a visit if in Norwich
