Mount Grace Priory, Northallerton

(4.6/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
Mount Grace Priory is the perfect tourist attraction for a relaxing and peaceful day out. Discover how the monks lived 600 years in the reconstructed monk’s cell and herb plot.

The crumbling masonry and open grassland have become home to a collection of wildlife that has taken advantage of what previous owners, including the monks, left behind. The famous priory stoats inhabit the passages under Mount Grace and are possibly the best-known colony of stoats in Yorkshire and even the British Isles.

  • Great place to visit! Very interesting history set in very tranquil surroundings! A must see if ever passing....
  • A fascinating look at a slightly different layout of a monastery from others such as Fountains Abbey. The Carthusian order did things slightly differenly and each monk lived in their own self-contained house with garden. It's very interesting to see how they lived and one of the houses has been restored so you can see the rooms and how they lived and worked. There's plenty of information in several rooms of the house and the gardens are worth a stroll around.
  • Loved the gardens & the house very well kept a lovely day spent almost 2 hours here even wine and food tasting set out
  • Nice historic buildings and ruins in secluded area.
  • A small stately home with more extensive grounds and walks into the hills adjoining.
