Really enjoyed our visit, we had a tour with one of the miners who was very knowledgeable and engaging. The exhibition was great and well worth exploring and the cafe seemed reasonable. It would be great to see the place get more funding so they can show off more of the site!
Our guided tour by Jim, who worked in the mine was great; highly informative and funny, a real insight into the workings of the mines recent past. Lots of great photos in the exhibitions as well a wealth of information. Highly recommend a visit, as has been said, a hidden gem!
the museum is one of the best in its segment. you see and understand everything about coal mining. plus there are some simulations about the mining operation. my tour guide was Dave, great personality with extensive knowledge made my tour far more than expected. enjoyed a lot. thanks to everyone working at the site.
Visited the mining museum in late September, very good value compared to other museums,a guided tour is recommended at no extra cost, the guide was very informative and was very good at including children in his talks and ex plantations of mine workings, warm clothing is recommended,as is good walking shoes.the display rooms are well laid out and accessible for all ages, then there's the home baking in the cafe, well that is the best end to a day out ever .
Our daughters wedding here on Sunday 29th October was a fantastic success, only downside was the over the top prices for the drink.
