Blackfriars, Newcastle upon Tyne

(3.9/5 based on 60+ reviews on the web)
Shop and dine within the restored buildings of a 13th-century friary at Blackfriars. After sitting empty for many years, the area now houses various craft workshops and a high-end restaurant that uses locally sourced ingredients. Stop by the exhibition also located here to read up on the area's history. Take time to notice the original medieval buildings of the cloisters that are still standing today. See Blackfriars and all Newcastle upon Tyne has to offer by arranging your trip with our Newcastle upon Tyne trip builder.

  • Good roast easy walk from centre of Newcastle. Beef was cooked to perfection but as it's hidden under a lovely Yorkshire pud, you may want to just check how many slices you've been given. A couple of ...  more »
  • This is worth a visit. Historical site with available restaurant. Right next to Chinatown and part of the old town wall
  • Came for lunch - menu very good plenty of choice - food great - very good value for money, would recommend and would return.

  • Good food and excellent service, but rather expensive
  • Despite not booking, the staff were able to accommodate us. Excellent old British food, service and atmosphere all for a reasonable price
  • First visit here was for a birthday meal and we certainly weren't disappointed. Extensive menu with some great local (Geordie) options. Excellent quality food, good atmosphere and the staff are professional and friendly. Can't wait to visit again.
  • Even if we don't go as much as we like we have a family tradition to have our 'Works-esque Family Xmas Lunch' (it's complicated...) there every year, and it was as good as ever. Great staff, great food, great place.
  • The finest first materials make up for an exquisite taste albeit in average portions! The stone building with the wooden interior add more character. Eating there is a must and a reservation is preferred if not required!
