  • Lovely walk with a historic castle ruins to visit. You can walk from here to Snelsmore which has great wildlife and more beautiful country to explore. Pack your family and a picnic. Dogs optional.  more »

  • If only someone hadn't used modern bricks when they did some repairs to the castle many years ago! I grew up in Newbury so Donnington castle has been visited many a time over the years. For me it's a great local historical attraction despite not being able to get inside what's left of the remaining structure. Bring a picnic and let your kids (if you have any, otherwise borrow some) and enjoy a good old fashioned afternoon in the fresh air with some great views over the Thames Valley. You can also walk along to Snelsore Common if you fancy a bit of exercise to boot.
  • Good views over Newbury and an interesting site but limited information about the features of the castle.
  • Calm anf quite.. Nice place to relax. But one thing, we cannot go inside. Only can walk around and see it from the outside
  • A nice walk from Newbury. Don't expect anything grand though. Seems like this is a very popular place for Pokemon Go players.
  • Donnington Castle is well worth the visit if you're in the area. It's just of the highway from Stonehenge back to Oxford so it's quite convenient. The castle is just a short walk up a hill from the free car park and offers an amazing view of the valley. The castle itself is just ruins but it's still impressive and worth the time to see.
