  • +JMJ. Historical places! Love it. Yet another very beautifully maintained historical site seen during my May 1984 visit to British friends. This UK locale transported me to a sightseers Heaven. My reviews of my travels are all going to be personal meaning that I really can not image how my review will encourage anyone to visit the places I have visited. Yet, I am submitting reviews anyway. Anyone who loves to travel, loves history will enjoy every place visited because their heart says this is the place for me!
  • This is a beautiful place to walk up to, at any time of the day. Very local and the view of Newbury is amazing, once you get to the top. Very children friendly, as they can play on the rocky walls, and run around on the field. :-) It would be hard for wheelchairs to get up the hill though.
  • Pretty landmark. Nice walk. Time to let us into the tower.
  • Quite small ruins still standing but it is atop a large earth mound so a nice place for a picnic with good distant views
  • Really interesting piece of history and very beautiful to behold. Only half of the castle remains and it sits upon a hill which can make the siege history (one was for 20 months) quite surreal. Unfortunately, you are not allowed inside for safety but you can walk around the outside. Amusingly, one of the caretakers had left his trilby inside. It probably takes around 30 minutes to look at it properly and take in the views from the castle but there are some woods nearby which you can also walk around. Be aware though that some lead onto a golf course which the public should not be on. Would recommend experiencing this.
