  • I lived in Newark for 8 years & never knew about this site. I returned with my tourer for 10 days holiday & loved every minute of it. It is a beautiful site that has acres of space & walking places for my 3 dogs. The staff can't do enough for you & are so friendly. It is peaceful & has everything you could ask for whilst in a tourer, motor home or tent. Spotlessly clean too. We will be back. No charge for dogs or awnings either which has saved us a fortune over our time here. 😆
  • We went there for fishing, I personally didn't caught a single fish also the map they gave us was difficult to navigate , it's not very accurate. And you're not allowed to keep your dog of the leash which was very annoying :/
  • Having just spoken with lady on the phone who worked at Smeaton lakes I felt inclined to express my experience. Firstly she answered the phone with a simple 'hello' giving no indication if I had rung the correct place. Not very professional. And when I inquired about the fishing I was told some amazing lies! Apparently the pike have not spawned yet (and this is the end of MAY!). Having just having obtained my masters (go me!) in fish ecology I can assure you that pike in this country will have spawned once the water temperature in the shallows reaches 8 degrees. Smeaton lakes are shallow and so their water will have warmed up some time ago. Even the deep waters in the lake district have already reached said temp a good while ago and the latest I heard pike spawning this year was at the end of April. To then also say that because the bream haven't spawned means the pike will not have is simply amazing. Now I am left amazed that at her lack of knowledge (I would rather she said she didnt know anything about the fishing which is rather evident) and to come out with such 'facts' without being prompted really made me laugh. The sad thing is that here is another venue that will not be getting my money nor will it be getting my recommendations!
  • Just got back from a short break at Smeatons, staff were pleasant and helpful, nice site plenty of space, toilets were clean, showers were hot, would go again
  • A few points to note before you think about going here: Site is generally clean. Taps available at good distances around the site. Site is directly next to the A616 which is a very noisy road, even at night. Nobody on reception in the evening. Despite lots of open space dogs have to be on leads at all times.
