Willen Lake, Milton Keynes
Categories: Entertainment Centers, Fun & Games
One of the more important features of the area is a large lake on the River Ouzel, Willen Lake. This lake was designed to capture flash floods in case they cause problems downstream. The north basin is a wildlife sanctuary and a favorite of migrating aquatic birds, so during your exploration you can watch for interesting animals. The south basin is for leisure use and a hotspot for activity, favored by wind surfers and dinghy sailors. The circuit of the lakes is a favored running spot as well. I love mazes and have never done a ground maze as big as this! I thought it might be easy but you can't see where the paths go so it is a challenge. We visited after rain and both the paths and surrounding grass were rather wet so we had to tread carefully. I can imagine you could wear you kids out running round it!! Nice to see such an unusual feature in a lovely setting.
