Fun & Games
Planet Ice Milton Keynes is a 2,800-capacity multi-purpose ice rink/hockey rink located in Milton Keynes, England, as part of the Leisure Plaza complex (near the Central station).Arena historyOpeningIn 1990, the rink opened as the Bladerunner Arena as part of the brand new Leisure Plaza complex, located close to Milton Keynes Central railway station. The Leisure Plaza facility offered a leisure and retail complex to Milton Keynes: the location featured trees, shrubbery, family picnic areas and a large pond hosting wildlife and plants with a footbridge crossing the water. In addition to the ice rink, the new complex also featured Flamingo's nightclub, Megabowl 10-pin bowling alley, Cafe Moonshine (later Heroes sports bar), an Argos superstore and Homebase centre. The ice rink itself boasted 2,200 seats, 3 licensed bars (one overlooking the ice surface, the other a kiosk at ice level), a restaurant, 3 function rooms (2 of which overlooked the ice surface – one having a bar), an ice sports shop, cafeteria, video games area, skate hire, 8 team changing rooms (1 reserved for the home professional ice hockey team), DJ box, management offices and an olympic sized ice pad. Its facilities and ice pad was one of several rinks which opened in the 1980s and '90s. In the early '90s two of Bladerunner's smaller changing rooms were converted into a large changing room, office and meeting area for the specific use of the Milton Keynes Kings Junior Ice Hockey Club.

  • Good facilities, although the skate hire queues are very long at times. Good viewing areas for the session. Food was ok, service was very good. Carole : |  more »

  • I love coming to planet ice for the hockey but they have quite literally the worst bar team I've ever seen. The notion of multi tasking is way beyond them, standing chatting whilst pouring a single pint, i have to ask to pay whilst they are pouring my pint every single time. Why the hell can't you start pouring my pint and then at least start putting it through the till? The wait at the bar is at least doubled by there being no management and it being pretty much a free for all. Aside from the bar, the staff are great, the facilities clean and it's a great evening out.... Provided you don't want a drink.
  • The only time I normally come here, is to watch MK Lightning kick some ass. The facilities are good. Seating is a little cramped and food options could be improved on. It doesn't compare in size with the big NHL rinks in the USA, but it seems to do the job for the local UK teams. Go Lightning!!
  • Took kids for a 5 day skating course during half-term, very good value including meal deal, plus venue allowed the kids to stay on the ice the rest of the day. Meal deals (breakfast & lunch) were great value foe money, and the staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful to my kids, plus never caused me a problem leaving the venue multiple times to top up parking ticket. One thing I'd suggest is that they amend the included meal deal on the lessons to a kids meal as standard as it seems the panini and soup option wasn't popular with the young ones. Thanks Planet Ice and see you next school holidays ;)
  • Awesome place, we went there with our 2 young kids and was really good fun, staff is very helpful, even on ice when someone falls there is always someone who will give a hand. Definitely give a try.
  • We had a great time at our first game and skated afterwards. It is a bit pricey when you are in there
