  • We had read quite a few reviews about Middleham Castle, and as we were highly sceptical of the Tudor propaganda of Richard III, felt that a visit here was a must. We were not prepared for the initial ...  read more »

  • I was in Middleham and York for a Richard III weekend and visited the castle three times over that time. It has a lovely atmosphere and stupendous views of the surrounding countryside from the tower. ...  read more »
  • Oozed history.. Brilliant place to visit and has a lovely village surrounding it with great pubs. One of the better English heritage sites I've been too. A must if in the area, even of your not, worth the drive.
  • Really interesting Castle and set in a pretty market town, worth a stop.
  • Came here having read all the books of Phillipa Gregory's Cousins War series (including the televised "The White Queen"), it having been so prominent as the home of Warwick the Kingmaker and, later, Richard III. Full of history, but somewhat claustrophobic as castles go with narrow areas within it. I think English Heritage could make more of its history than they have, with more about Warwick, Anne Neville, Richard etc in the wake of the recent TV series. At least there is a fine statue of Richard III in the courtyard. Helpful, friendly and well-informed staff.
  • According to Google this place is close to Charing and I should be familiar with it. I have apparently looked it up. 1. It's not close to Charing it is in fact in Yorkshire some 250 miles away. 2. I'm good on castles yet I hadn't heard of it before so I should do some research about it just in case I'm ever in the area where it is. 3. I have never looked it up. There are 3 other places apparently near to Charing which I'm asked to review. I have never heard of them or Googled them either. What the hell are they playing at? Sorry Middleham I have just given you 1 star as I know nothing about you.
  • Compact site but lots to do. Loved the kid-friendly corner too!
