  • Lovely friendly tearooms. Everything homemade. Beautiful cake.
  • Interesting town to visit. Grate views across lake. Fine church with unique wall painting.
  • A lovely serine place. Much bigger than we expected. A Beautiful garden to walk and sit in. Would definately recommend. Will visit again.
  • Delightful historic grounds. Very upmarket. Boutique shops and excellent tea room. Nice place to spend an afternoon feeding the ducks at the lakeside.
  • Melbourne Hall was the home of Queen Victoria's Prime Minister. This was how a settlement in Australia got to be called Melbourne. The Church, the one next to the hall was built to accommodate the Bishop of Carlisle found it necessary to move to South of the River Trent when the natives to the north of Carlisle got a little restive. Both buildings are interesting. In fact the rest of the village has many hidden gems in it. Of especial interest is the little known fact that this village/town is actually the birthplace of Thomas Cook. He gave his name to the travel company. What is now a large company catering for the travel needs of the populace on a worldwide scale actually started out by organising a railway journey from Loughborough to Leicester so that people would be able to attend a Temperance Society meeting that was being held there.
