The Manchester Museum, Manchester
(4.6/5 based on 1,500+ reviews on the web)
With access to 4.5 million artifacts from every continent, The Manchester Museum is a vital research facility for the University of Manchester. The neo-Gothic building is centrally located on the university campus, so you can combine a museum visit with a tour of the university grounds. In 2011, the museum opened Living Worlds, an exhibit that encourages visitors to reflect on their own attitude toward nature. The Ancient Worlds exhibit involves a hands-on approach to explore the work of archaeologists. In 2013, Nature's Library opened to the public holding thousands of artifacts against the backdrop of Gothic Revival architecture. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Manchester holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the The Manchester Museum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • We pent a couple of hours here and was very impressed with the exhibits on show - we particularly enjoyed seeing the tiny colourful poison arrow tree frogs!
  • I think that it's a museum good for kids, there are different topics, but if I have to say which is the biggest one, this is animals. The material is really good, which complement the structure of the...  more »

  • A fantastic free day out! There is so much to see, and the staff are really interested in the topics they discuss, it is contagious! They have hands on stations where you can handle all kinds of artifacts. The cafe is well priced and has a good selection of food and cake. There is such a wealth of local history, as well as national and world history, a great place for kids or adults!
  • Small but perfectly formed! A lovely collection including animals, skeletons, dinosaurs, ancient Egyptian mummies, live frogs and snakes, a lovely cafe and friendly staff. Perfect for a rainy afternoon with the children. Be warned: parking is a nightmare in this area - particularly during the week - so best to use public transport...
  • The place is very nice. The old university building is very stylish and the museum fits well with it. I am surprised the entrance is free. A fee would be perfectly justifiable.
  • Absolutely loved Manchester museum. We didn't realise how good it was until we visited. Lots to see and well laid out. We think it could be our new go to museum!
  • This is a very good museum with lots of different things to look at. The cafe had nice food but was very busy. The staff were all very helpful.
