#3 of 20 in Museums in Manchester
Specialty Museum Museum
With access to 4.5 million artifacts from every continent, The Manchester Museum is a vital research facility for the University of Manchester. The neo-Gothic building is centrally located on the university campus, so you can combine a museum visit with a tour of the university grounds. In 2011, the museum opened Living Worlds, an exhibit that encourages visitors to reflect on their own attitude toward nature. The Ancient Worlds exhibit involves a hands-on approach to explore the work of archaeologists. In 2013, Nature's Library opened to the public holding thousands of artifacts against the backdrop of Gothic Revival architecture. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Manchester holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the The Manchester Museum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The British Museum in miniature! Definitely my favourite museum in a town. great variety of exposition, but not too big to make you overwhelmed.  more »
  • Quite far out of the main town and very small for a museum. The content was interesting and worth a look but you soon get round. Checked out the cafe which was pretty poor staffing wise and overpriced...  more »

  • The kids love this as do the adults! There is lots of interactive bits for the kids to enjoy and live reptiles, they especially love the dinosaur section with the giant t-rex! There is a cafe which is a bit expensive but we always take food with us for the handy picnic area, there are toilets and baby change facilities and is fully wheelchair and pram friendly. They have lockers to put any bags or items you may not want to carry around! There is a gift shop also for a little treat! It is free to enjoy but donations are welcomed and worth it! Parking can be tricky there is only one car park and as its the city center it will cost you a bit but overall worth it, it takes us around 3 hours I
  • The museum is free and you can easily spend the whole day in it. There is enough to keep everyone entertained. They have special "mini expo" from time to time, often geared towards the kids so it is worth keeping an eye on their calendar. The museum is right in the middle of the university campus so access and parking is really easy.
  • This museum is very good. I particularly enjoy the display of wild life. The upper floor is fantastic also. And is free!!!
  • Great place to browse and discover interesting things from ancient fossils to live brightly coloured poisonous frogs.
  • A great museum. Loads to see. Would highly recommend it.
