Fremlin Walk is an outdoor shopping centre in Maidstone town centre, Kent. It opened in 2005 after several years of development by Centros Miller to include 350000sqft of shopping and a 760 space car park. The original owner was Land Securities plc. Legal & General Property bought the centre in 2011 for £92 million.LocationThe main pedestrian entrance to the centre is from the pedestrianised Week Street to the east. There are other pedestrian entrances from St Faith's Street to the north and Earl Street, to the south. The A229 Fairmeadow runs parallel to the River Medway at the western end of the centre, but is approximately 2 storeys lower than the shopping centre. The car park for the centre is located below the House of Fraser department store at the western end; vehicle access is from Fairmeadow and Earl Street.Maidstone East railway station is 330m north of the main pedestrian entrance, along Week Street.HistoryThe site was previously a factory making Fremlins' Ales & Beers, However, in the 1970s, the Victorian brewery was closed and the existing building just used as a bottling depot. Later on, the site was downgraded once more to a despatch depot. The only original structure from when the site was a brewery, is the arch entrance and clock. To fit in with the scheme of 'new life' for the river area in the town, it was decided that the shipping depot should be demolished, and something new put in its place; a shopping centre.

  • I love Fremlin walk! Not just to shop at but also to work at, the area is always kept nice and clean. I can't praise the security enough for keeping all violence and hooligans out of Fremlin and saying hello to me. When ever I'm in work they always come in and check there is no trouble and to see how everything is. As I said, brilliant staff that put together lovely experience for both shoppers and workers.
  • Has HMV and Waterstones so I am happy.
  • It's normal straight forward shopping! Plenty of shops, usual offering of large chains with a few independents. Plenty of tea and coffee places and loads of places to eat in the neighbouring roads. Go to Buddha Belly on the corner of pudding Lane for a cheap decent blowout!
  • The place to go for shopping in Maidstone, apart from slightly expensive parking this is where most people go for they're chain shops in Maidstone. It looks nice and is very open with a vast selection of shops which primarily sell clothes.
  • Nice shopping centre, with a decent amount of good shops
