Cadwell Park Circuit, Louth

#4 of 17 in Things to do in Louth
Set in the rolling Lincolnshire countryside, Cadwell Park was established in 1934. The length of the track, nicknamed the 'mini Nurburgring', almost doubled to 1.3 miles in 1953, when the ascendant 500cc motorcycle-engined Formula 3 class was invited to race in a traditional bike meeting. Reg Spreckley thus became the track's first car race winner in his Cooper. Some 30,000 spectators were said to have watched the meeting.

The original track, with its fearsome and photogenic Mountain feature, grew to its current 2.25-mile layout in 1962 and hosted the British F3 series the following May. It has three configurations – the rarely used Woodlands circuit, the short Club circuit, and the splendid, daunting Full circuit.

These days, its car racing exploits are confined to club meetings but they are invariably crackers, the track's swooping nature providing fantastic racing.

Great venue to watch motorsport. If you want to see the action around the mountain, then pay the extra and get a grandstand seat. I went to the back of the track which offers excellent views across th...  more »

  • Incredible track. Certainly worth an evening visit (any longer you may become addicted!)
  • God's best race track nice facilities a great day / weekend out try it
  • A brilliant domestic race circuit with some excellent corners which provide some very exciting races. The "mountain" particularly stands out as a spectacle, particularly with motorbikes, and the British superbikes races.
  • Best circuit in the UK excellent views and challenging track bring the touring back here
  • One of the most technical fun and fast tracks I've driven. Home of the infamous mountain and known as the mini ring (after the nordschleife) this track does not disappoint. It isnt too far from Market Raisen and there are sign posts (not that well signed) but once you get there it more than lives up to the hype. Cafe serves good food and plenty of room for parking. There are no proper pits so if its wet bring wet weather gear as if you need to change tyres you will get very wet. Great team at the track and somewhere I try to get to as often as I can. See my profile pic for proof.
