  • Thank goodness for such a memorial, which commemorates the dedication and sacrifice of women, in a area where most of the statues are of men. It takes centre stage in this part of Whitehall with Downi...  more »
  • Located in White Hall. Located in the middle of the road. It's a memorial dedicated to the women who played in the second world war. It is a huge monument!

  • The monument represents the 7 million women in WW11 & my mother was one of them. She signed up at just 17 years of age-long before I was born! One day I hope to go to London & see the monument & remember all the stories mum told me about her time in Ack-Ack-Anti-Aircraft & what her job entailed. I'm very proud of her, sadly she passed away aged nearly 92. I will always remember her words-"Even though there was a war on, bombs were dropping, you never knew if you'd live or die-they were the best years of my life"! Marjorie Johnson-nee Howarth-Bolton Lancs 9/11/1924 - 1/8/2016
  • This Monument is a wonderful reminder of the women of WW11. I am proud to say both my teenage parents enlisted at the start of WW11. I have always felt very proud of them! My dad rarely mentioned his duties or where he was stationed, sadly he died in hospital Oct 1991 aged just 69. However, my mum spoke about the war quite a lot, even in her 90s & always said "even though there was a war on & bombs dropping we didn't know if we would live or die-but they were the best years of my life". She was a "plane spotter" in the ACK-ACK-Anti-Aircraft! She made many friends & kept in touch with them till she was in her 90s. Sadly mum passed away after losing her battle to Bullious Pemphigoid in Aug 2016. I haven't been to see the Monument dedicated to the women of WW11 but I've seen many photos of the unveiling. The Queen, Baroness Boothroyd, Dame Vera Lynn, Dame Margaret Thatcher, Defence Secretary John Reid, along with many others from WW11 including my proud patriotic mum-Marjorie Johnson from Bolton, Lancs. Daughter-Jay Johnson. Blackpool, Lancs.
  • A statue dedicated to the women on the frontline on the battlefield and on the Homefront during World War 2. Erected about 60 years ago.
  • Lovely monument that you pass by.
  • A monument to woman that was erected 60 years later. Its lovely and poignant piece however we dont see the establishment laying a wreath .this institutional neglect shames thiere memory.
