Vauxhall Bridge, London

3.7
#1199 of 3,327 in Things to do in London
Vauxhall Bridge holds special appeal for James Bond fans due to its views of MI6 headquarters, home of Britain's secret intelligence service. Even if you're not an enthusiast of the spy film franchise, you can still appreciate the bridge's Thames River scenery and its bronze sculptures, which represent the fields of agriculture, architecture, engineering, pottery, science, fine arts, local government, and education. The bridge also holds historical value, dating back to 1906 and being the first of its kind in London to hold tram tracks. Using our custom trip planner, London attractions like Vauxhall Bridge can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • This bridge was on my 10-year olds "hit list" in London so he could get a pic of himself with MI6 headquarters in the background. Pretty view over the Thames as well, but this is a functional bridge n...  more »

  • it is a life buoy, it seems it sends out a MOB(落水/Man overboard)signal when used. Life-belt container (flotation aid) is provided on the bridge. Similar life belts can be seen along many rivers in the UK. In some towns, kids seem to think it is clever to throw the safety devices into the river and watch them float away, so the life-belt will not be there when needed.
  • Everything is handy near here - tube station, etc.
  • Wide and quite bridge with nice scenery around.
  • Beautiful old bridge in central London, mysterious statues visible from the river promenade
  • Lovely view towards the city at night

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
