Up at The O2, London

4.7
#44 of 2,151 in Things to do in London
View London in a new way at Up at The O2. Put on a climbing suit and harness and walk across the tensile-fabric walkway to the viewing platform in the middle of the roof. From 52 m (170 ft) above the ground, you'll enjoy 360-degree views of the city and landmarks such as Olympic Park, Thames Barrier, The Shard, Historic Royal Greenwich, and Canary Wharf. The venue provides everything you need for the walk, including shoes. You might be warm under the climbing suit depending on the weather, so be sure to wear clothes you don't mind sweating in. These walks fill up quickly, so try to book in advance. For Up at The O2 and beyond, use our London vacation generator to get the most from your London vacation.

  • The experience is fun and somewhat physically challenging. While the pace of the ascent and descent is slow, the steepness at the beginning and end of the walk can be challenging - it's the trampoline-like floor that makes it a bit tricky, but with the slow pace and helpful instructor, most people will be able to manage this. The views, while impressive, are not quite spectacular. This is partly due to buildings obscuring the view to the west, which means a number of London's iconic landmarks can't really be seen - you can catch glimpses of them on the way up and down, but it's not the same as being able to take them in while at the summit. However, the views are a joy to take in, especially if the weather is clear, which it was for us. The whole experience lasts around 90 minutes, from the initial briefing to the completion of the walk over the dome. For the money it represents good value for money and something I would recommend to everyone.
  • Brilliant challenging experience for any age. We went up as part of a camera club group in v bad conditions very wet & windy with gusts. The suit & harness protected against weather very heavy duty climbing equipment & secure to a wire. Guides v professional & helpful. Special mention to Shaz our guide who was marvellous in every way. Thoroughly recommended
  • Was lucky to have great weather for our climb. From start to finish it was a wonderful experience. Climb physically fairly easy, views impressive from the top. Would have liked to have spent slightly longer at the top though.
  • It's an amazing experience. The climb is higher and steeper than you would expect. And the view is absolutely lovely. We went late afternoon and it was already pretty dark was it was even better- you lose to chill on the way up.
  • Brilliant day lots of help n advice. Patient. Good idea if fundraising

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
