Tooting Bec Lido, London

4.0
#6 of 10 in Nature in London
Water Body Nature / Park
Enjoy a bracing open-air swim at Tooting Bec Lido, among the largest swimming pools in the UK. An earthen ramp covered in bird-filled trees surrounds the 91.5 m (300 ft) by 30 m (99 ft) pool, forming a green and turquoise oasis in the midst of London's urban sprawl. After a refreshing swim in the unheated water, enjoy a bite to eat at the cafe, which offers a range of breakfast, lunch, and snack options, as well as hot and cold drinks. Put Tooting Bec Lido into our London itinerary builder and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.

  • Can get pretty busy around the pool area but at 91 metres long there is plenty space in the pool to 'chill'...water temperature around 20degrees. At one side the serious swimmers, wets suits on, cruis...  more »
  • Would not recommend anyone to eat here. Food is disgusting and the two men running it are rude! I asked for a chicken SALAD (the healthiest thing I could find on the menu) and the chicken was fried in...  more »
  • There are a number of outdoor swimming areas around London, Tooting Bec Lido would have been my local one, My father lived in here, he loved it, a great place on a sunny day, well worth a visit.  more »

  • IT WAS A LOVELY EXPERIENCE ME AND MY FAMILY LOVED IT THERE. BUT THEY COULD MAKE THE WATER A BIT WARMER...
  • If there was a 0 star it would get it. Largely down to rude door staff. If a woman is 8 months pregnant she should not have to wait in the queue, simple.
  • Great place to go on a hot summer day for a swim and to relax. Extremely busy on the day of our visit, but given the heatwave at the time that was understandable. We found it quite easy to get there and spent a few very pleasant hours. Disappointing that there were not really locker facilities that we could find, but it was a minute thing.
  • A brilliant place to swim. The water can get cold so bring a wet suit. The water is usually quite clean even with all the trees around. A great value.
  • Great pool. Lovely way to spend a sunny day.
