  • Nearly every trip I take to London includes a stop in here, usually for info regarding European hiking/city breaks. I've never been disappointed.  more »
  • I was in shock and awe when walking into this travel bookshop. The entrance floor is for the UK, the lower floor for the rest of the world, and the top floor is Europe. This shop will not disappoint f...  more »
  • I came across this cute store while walking around the Covent Garden area. It has a great selection of travel books and maps. It was really fun to browse through three floors. I've never seen a store ...  more »

  • A world class travel store that is any geographer's heaven. Full of OS maps, globes and loads of specialist guides and gifts. Staff are very helpful and happily sorted out a replacement loyalty card for me over the phone and was ready to collect in 30 minutes! Staff are knowledgeable and very helpful and the cafe on the ground floor is full of wonderful hot drinks and snacks which is a great stopover and a great way to avoid the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden!
  • You will get wanderlust as soon as you enter this shop. It has everything from maps to travel journals, and from globes to local London guides. Any traveller looking for any information on any location in the world will find something she or he can use in this shop. (PS I love the fact that it has a map of London as floor covering)
  • Nice store , with maps galore. Nice books , and gifts too. Lovely quaint coffee shop at the rear makes it a perfect place for intellectually inclined visitors.
  • Fascinating place with lots of books, maps and other gear, mostly aimed at serious travellers , but there is a good section of London-related stuff. No tourist souvenir tat. You could spend quite a while browsing.
  • My favourite travel shop of all time - especially the map department. I can always get the best most obscure maps of my destinations from here - so much better to unfold and browse them in person than take a big gamble on the internet.

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
