St. James's Park, London

4.8
#2 of 4,204 in Parks in England
St. James's Park is one of the most pleasurable green spaces in London. The oldest of the city's royal parks, it offers 23 hectares (57 acres) of lawns, trees, and playgrounds around a pond. Take a stroll down the queen's ceremonial route from Buckingham Palace, spot the palace and the London Eye from the Blue Bridge, and enjoy a waterside meal at Inn the Park while spotting ducks, geese, swans, and even pelicans. While in the park, keep an eye out for some of the plaques along the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Walk. This 11 km (7 mi) route past buildings and locations related to the princess goes through this park, as well as Green Park, Hyde Park, and Kensington Gardens. A visit to St. James's Park represents just the start of the adventure when you use our London travel route builder website to plot your vacation.

  • Very green park at the heart of London. Swans are swimming in the lake, good food for your camera. Very nice for families with young children. You can spend more than one hour enjoying the place  more »

  • Beautiful park. Stunning views of the palace from across the lake. Nice cafes and lovely ice cream shops dotted round the park. Grass is really clean and if you prefer can hire deck chairs for £1.80 an hr. Good toilet facilities and very clean but there is a 20p charge but a change machine is outside. Lots of green parrots flying round which was novel for me but I also liked the soldiers parading down the mall on horseback. Play area for kids is fantastic so well worth a visit.
  • Lovely park full of mature trees, and a large canal surrounded by foliage and filled with ducks, geese, swans and other water fowl. This is my favorite place in all of London. Walking along the side of canal on the birdcage walk side is so peaceful and shaded by the huge trees that hang over the trails. We also enjoy watching the water birds, the well fed and curious grey squirrels (they will come right up to you if they think you have food and I've seen people feed them from their hand), and trying to catch a glimpse of the beautiful green parrots that live high in the trees.
  • Beautiful park on Pall Mall with views to Buckingham Palace. It's easy to get to, from Victoria station it's 15 minutes walk or St James Park station is a short distance also. It's a great Park for everyone, families, joggers, dog walkers, sunbathers etc. It's a huge park and can accommodate everyone. The man made lake is full of ducks and swans all belonging to the Queen of course. There is a kids area with slides and swings, and a cafe and bathroom nearby. There are other facilities near the entrance/exit but you have to pay 20p to use it.
  • Beautiful Park between Buckingham Palace and The Churchill War Rooms. This park is lively and welcoming. Walking through the park on a Saturday afternoon in August, you see people everywhere picnicking and just taking in the sun. The lake has a variety of birds and huge fish. Carp? I'm not really sure. There is also a lovely little cottage along the edge of the lake
  • Very nice park with nice scenery. It also has a playground for the kids and benches for us tired adults. It's nice to go out and sit since the scenery is very beautiful and there are ducks and swans swimming in the pool. If you have children they will love it
